Can't decide on suspension
i'm riding stock now. i bought some tokico blues and eibach pros after researching several months. it seemed that most people said this was the best ride and many claimed that it rode like stock. now i'm having second thoughts about this setup as stock is already stiff enough for the amount of driving i do. plus, recently, i've found several people that said that tokicos and eibach pros is a pretty stiff ride. i guess it's all in the opinion of the driver. what feels good to one person doesn't to the next. i'm getting ready to change my stock 12mm rear sway bar for a 19mm rsx bar. i was thinking of doing that, putting the tokico's on with the stock springs, doing a full lip kit, and running 205/55/16 wheels. the lip kit will be too low if i drop it IMO. i know lots of people have done both, but i think it's too low. i'm not a teenager anymore, so i don't want the stiff ride that used to be okay. so what's people's thoughts on all this?

Re: Can't decide on suspension
I'd drop it at least a little. S Techs and the pro kit are a subtle drop. I've heard of people putting aftermarket springs on stock shocks, but you may be the first to put stock springs on aftermarket shocks. with wheels, and a lip kit, the stock wheel gap is gonna look even worse. If the roads are bad enough where you live that you're worried about it being too low, maybe you should just lower it a little, and skip the lip kit???

Re: Can't decide on suspension
Your ride will also be better if you get some 15" rotas or something, and some good tires. the bigger the wheel, the stiffer the ride. Tho 16s won't be as bad as 17s or 18s.

Re: Can't decide on suspension
Word. I've got 17s and a Tein SS setup. Its stiff, but not as rough as my buddies with just Eibach springs, stock shocks, and 17s. Honestly since you've already got the parts, why not throw them on and drive it for a week to see how you like it? You're only looking at about 4 hours of work if you don't like and about 2 hours if you do. The sway bay won't effect the way she feels on bumps and potholes, but ambulance is right. More rubber=more absorption of road imperfections. If you're really worried about wheel get 80 series on a set of 17s and tell folks your car spends half its time as sand rail!

Re: Can't decide on suspension
It is all about perception. I have tokico blues with s-techs and my buddy was driving my car the other day (because I was a little disabled at the time) and we go over a speed-bump and he goes "Man, your car doesn't like to leave the ground" I asked him what he meant and he said "Right after that speedbump it was firmly planted again." So it doesn't bounce around excessively. I think a lot of those "bouncy" cars are 16 year old ricers who's friends told him to just cut the springs and save money. If you get good stuff (like you did) you should be happy . . .
Re: Can't decide on suspension
Toooooo much punch... I just put the new Tokico D-specs on my car. I forgot to adjust them haha (they come from the factory set all the way to hard?) My car DEFINITELY didn't want to leave the ground, I've never felt so many bumps before! But good stuff, those Tokico guys. I'll tune it up tonight and we'll be smooth sailing.
Re: Can't decide on suspension
i got tokico blues with stock springs and 14 inch wheels. rides a little better and significantly more stable than stock shocks in normal driving but big speed bumps will be stiff.
Re: Can't decide on suspension
I have the Progress drop springs with KYB AGX struts...if you don't like stiff and bumps stay the hell away from those two together...I love it though...just wish my back did too

Re: Can't decide on suspension
Why didn't you get suspension with an adjustable damper?? I find most people post that tockico blues have a good ride, but then I read another thread where people said the ride was stiff. I think people with tokico blues, just talk a lot of crap. First they say the ride is great, then they say its stiff. I've read comments from the same members, that say they give a good ride, and on another thread they say it gives a stiff ride.
Hypocrites if you ask me.
I have Tokico D-specs, and I prefer the stiff ride. I do have them set pretty stiff, but I like them that way. However, I've ridden on them on the softest setting, and they pretty smooth, but it bounces the car around more. With the firm setting, it doesn't really bounce around, but the bumps you hit are more harsh.
I dunno why you bought tokico blues, if you wanted a soft ride. You should have bought D-specs, or Koni Yellows.

Re: Can't decide on suspension
I bought new eibach prokit for $150 and new tokico blues for $325 both from ebay. My buddy from 8thgencivic put them on for me as I watched. PERFECT ride in my opinion. Lowered the car just enough to get rid of some of the stock wheel gap and stiff'n the ride just right. Car feels so much mor flick-able. I'm still on Si wheels and 195/60/15's. You can't go wrong with this set up IMO

Re: Can't decide on suspension
Here is my two cents.
I did not have the patience to read all the postings on this thread I'm sure there are a lot of valid points.
I have only lowered two cars in the past and I am preparing to lower my civic when I get the money.
I have learned from my past cars that you simply cannot lower a car without giving up rid comfort, you just can't do it!
A stiffer ride is the price you pay for style and performance.
A larger profile tire will help a bit but not completely when you drop it.
Do not use performance springs on stock shocks its the worst setup ever.
Do use a progressive rate spring.
Do not go overboard on rim and tire setup ex.. 19' on 30 series
When I do drop my car it will be with a coil-over set up with adjustable dapening, this way I will have a lot more flexibilty on the ride comfort and looks (wheel gap).
Yes I'm willing to pay the price^^^^are you?

Re: Can't decide on suspension
Yes that is a hell of a lot of money but worth it IMO considering people spend that on rim and tire sets.
I think you might be looking for the holy grail of suspension set up.
You might be asking to much.
All I can say is it might take some trail and error until you come up with something you like.
Any way man good luck with your quest

Yeah, I'm glad the Tein SS setup was on my car when I bought it. I would have a hard time dropping close to 1500 clams on it. Now $1500 on the new D17 K-pro? That's a different story.

i guess it's all in the opinion of the driver. what feels good to one person doesn't to the next.

Re: Can't decide on suspension
Why bother dropping them on eibach pro kit?? It doesn't really drop it much. It almost looks like stock with the eibach pro kit. I swear, all 7thgens on eibach pro kits look stock. I can't really tell the difference, unless its a side by side comparison, or if I really look at it for a while. However, when you just glance at 7thgens with the pro kits on them, they look stock. I think you should just save up for a better car, like you said.
If your not going to do it right the first time, don't do it at all. Save your cash, buy a better car.

I think a car lowered 2" would do wonders for better handling, but the roads we drive on everyday is not a circuit. And those people who do treat it like the Le Mans end up causing accidents.
Another thing, if you're that concerned with the way your car looks then you've really bought into the whole aftermarket advertisement campaigning. You gotta take it back to the roots kiddo... performance parts were meant to increase performance, not increase your appeal to everyone else on the road.

I don't know about you, but I modify my car to look better. I don't take it to the track, and I don't race it. Because if I did want to do those things, I would've bought a faster car. So you modified your car with D-specs and the pro kit, because you were looking for the extra performance??
I don't know anyone personally that said they lowered their ride because of the performance. I'm not saying it doesn't, but most do it for looks.
