The Right Si For Me?

Hey guys, this is my first post, and I'm just wanting to collect a little general knowledge on the Civic Si.

Okay, here's the deal. I have a truck right now, but I'm selling it for a sport compact because I have to commute to college (80 mile round trip, 3 days a week). I've narrowed my choices down to the Eclipse GT, maybe a base RSX 5-speed, and a Civic Si. Whatever I get will have to be at most $8000.

Now with the questions. What's the newest Civic Si you think I could get for around $7000-$8000? Also, for whatever year model that is, what do they usually run in the 1/4 stock, and how do they respond to mods like I/H/E?

I'll probably have more questions later, but I'll let you guys answer these first lol. Thanks everybody

you can get an eclipse pretty easily depending on avalibility, but a 90's model Civic should do well and they seem to respond pretty good with mods.

How much money do you think it'd take to put a '99 Si into the 14's?

i really dunno but i'd just slap on a Jackson Racing Supercharger and that should get the job done.

Thanks for the replies guys. Don't the JR superchargers run around $2000 though? If so, that's way too high unfortunately. I can maybe do $2000 worth of mods, and i want wheels and exhaust at least.

Thanks again, Aaron

well out of your choices the only one you could find with decent mileage on it is a civic si all the others would have alot of miles if you found it for $7k-8K...even a 99-00 si would have around 100k miles if it was $7k-8k....one other choice is look for a older civic like early 90's civic that has been modified quite a bit and obviously chasis miles will be alot but just try to find one that has had a jdm motor put in or original motor rebuilt..here ar some options...

1991 honda crx w/b16a2
eBay Motors: Honda : CRX (item 230040071636 end time Oct-24-06 18:58:44 PDT)
not a bad price but its also in cali. so pretty good considering how much cars in cali are

1994 honda civc w/h22a....says $9k or best offer
eBay Motors: Honda : Civic (item 200037799002 end time Oct-23-06 23:53:32 PDT)
very nice except for the diffuser bumper...

2000 honda civc si w/ voretc supercharger..its on reserve but says its low
eBay Motors: Honda : Civic (item 260042338076 end time Oct-21-06 21:01:24 PDT)
pretty nice...couple "ricer" mods but overall pretty nice

1997 honca civic dx w/h22a....$8500
eBay
very nice car...a little showy but nice

1989 Crx 1.6 turbo charged..60-1 turbo...$5305
eBay Motors: Honda : Civic (item 270041070506 end time Oct-23-06 11:37:40 PDT)
best deal so far if its all true minus the ugly rims and tail lights..should easily run 13's or better(if its built.tunned right 12's)

1995 civic hatch w/ ls/vtec...$7000
eBay Motors: Honda : Civic (item 280038815065 end time Oct-23-06 10:25:05 PDT)
also very nice..easily a low 14 sec if not 13 second car

1998 hond civic ex/ turbocharged...buy it now price $9000
eBay Motors: Honda : Civic (item 220038178932 end time Oct-22-06 20:42:47 PDT)
VERY NICE!!! once again 13's should be no problem if not faster

well there are some examples the biggest key to any buy is doing your research and making sure the car is whatever the person claims to be. If he says it was done at a shop call and talk to the shop....ebay is a good place to buy if your a smart buyer...i would ONLY buy a car from a person who provides a number to contact them and answers all questions and agrees to having it aken to shop to be checked out even if you arent taking it to a shop which i would do...hope this helps....of course there are lots of internet search engines for used cars do you can find cars located closer to you but the best deals you usually have to drive a couple hrs to check out
