07' Civic SI or 07' GTI???
I'm in the market for something sporty and fun that gets good mileage. The Vehicle will be used for a short commute primarily driven by my wife....Me on the weekends or when I get bored with my Tacoma 4x4.
I have narrowed my two finalists down to the Civic SI and the VW GTI. The vehicle will be replacing a BMW 3 series which is entering the "Expensive" term of its exisitance.
Both the Civic and the VW have strong points, I'm partial to the "Teutonic" or German feel and engineering of the GTI, the downside is that the VW will not give me the same duration of trouble free service as the Honda.....The Honda has a "Peculiar" hood line and some other styling cues that are hard for me to adjust to.....Our current 3 Series is a great car but at the 5 year mark it is starting to ask for too much! We just dont drive as much as we used too therefore spending another 30K+ on another Bimmer is not an option.
The real issue is since I want a car that is "Performance" oriented in the 21-22K range and do not want to buy used.... Its down to the SI vs GTI.
My "Gut" tells me to avoid the GTI and go with a car we might actually pay off and keep! or even be able to hand down to the kids without handing them an expensive to maintain European car.
Any thoughts...Likes or Dislikes with the SI?
Any unresolved issues with Squeeks, Groans, Rattles, Recalls?
So far the biggest potential problem that I have ran into is the lack of actual inventory on the ground here in Colorado Springs...I will either have to special order one or drive to Denver, which I prefer not to do as supporting my local economy is important to me.
Sad that our local Honda dealer dosent even have a single SI to test drive...
Thanks for any Opinions or Input.

I'm 38 my wife is 30.....I still think of "Modding" as something English kids do on Vespa's! My wife is car dumb and spoiled. She thinks anything that doesent have a Lexus,BMW,Infiniti,Acura or the Three pointed star ....Is an economy car?
She will drive a new SI and love it!
She also has finally made the connection between Acura and honda and understands why the last RSX is so much like the new SI.
And with the 10K we will save by chosing the SI she may get to redo the Bedroom...Now that is exciting for her!!!!!
Me I just wanna find some twisty mountain roads and have some fun!
good to go. i can see her point in a way for the fact that its all our family had in the past until recently, but i still love an econobox, for the fact of the matter of the fact they can fit anywhere and don't cost much to maintain.
07 Si Sedan
I traded in my 2003 G35 Coupe (33,000 miles on it)...for an 07 NBP Si Sedan.. very poor dealership service experiences and some irritating issues, had been considering a 2003 Accord Coupe loaded at back at the end of 2002, should have stayed with what I knew (Honda dealership where I got my 2001 Oddessy..and has been fantastic)... drove straight from the infiniti dealership to the honda dealership - 6 years of good service/trust....superb quality of Hondas - and pretty sporty look, I did not even know about the Si Sedan until I walked onto the lot and saw the first one the dealer had gotten. Nighthawk Black Sedan. Took the Si Sedan for a drive.... it was a blast... the G had been a 5 speed auto... Almost everyone I know who has had a VW or Audi has had an electrical problem... Have a friend with a VW that is looking for something else now. They (Si and VW) will drive differently... But from experience...losing some weight (Si being lighter) will pay off big, if you like "feeling" your driving, and being involved... have 400 miles on it and want to go out and drive it all the time... good call Chazmanian, for me I am now down to Honda or Toyota (Mazda has some cool stuff, and the 3 has been a fun rental when I get them, but I could not argue with 6 problem free years on the Oddessy and the dealer's service dept. put Infiniti's to shame), and before I step up again (e.g. Infiniti, Lexus, Acura), I am going to sit in the dealership's service department and see how happy the customers with 3-5 year old cars are and how they are being treated... If I am paying for those upper tier, I better get upper tier service and customer care.... you will not be disappointed with the Si Sedan .... and keep in mind the Si Sedan is basically the Acura CSX Type S, without the leather interior...
