MP3 jack vs ipod link

Hello,

The 2007 Civic LX come standard (thank you Honda) with a MP3 jack.
They also are selling an ipod kit for their Civics.
http://automobiles.honda.com/models/...me=Civic+Sedan

I have a ipod nano. Does anyone know if I have to get the ipod kit?
Do any 2006 EX owners have any experience with the MP3 jack and using a nano?

Check this link before you buy the ipod kit Honda Music Link iPod Adapter Review - nuxx.net. I ordered it and sent it back unopened. Bought the tuneflex from Griffin you plug it into the ACC and the MP3 jack. Volume output is a little lower but seems to work fine.

I'm a little confused. Are you asking if the onboard Honda mp3 jack will work with an ipod? If so, then yes, all you need is a cord with stereo 3.5mm jacks on both ends. I use mine with my Palm T|X and my son's Ipod Shuffle with no problems.

Thanks for the replys

Mutantcheese:

Thanks you answered my question. If a simple cable will do the job then what the heck is Honda selling with their ipod kit?

Also, will the cable you mention charge my ipod while it's plugged into my car?
If not what would

Thanks again

The ipod kit is supposed to allow you to control your ipod thru your head unit/steering wheel controls; charge the ipod; show you what's playing etc. on the head unit display. Read my link for details on the problems people have encountered.

The 3.5mm does nothing but send the ipod signal to Aux input in the head unit. You must still use your ipod to change songs, playlists, etc. It does not charge your ipod. You will need a separate charging adaptor. The tune flex will charge and hold your Nano.

Thanks

Great info!
Looks like I'll just order my 2007 Civic LS as is. The ipod kit doesn't seem worth it.

Thanks again

If you are technically inclined at all, the link isnt bad. It not only charges the ipod and keeps your eyes on the road, it puts your ipod in your glove box and doesnt take up either of the other two 12v outlets (important if you have external SAT radio, radar detector, cell phone chargers, etc.) I like it a lot. Keeps my car looking clean and gives the best possible sound. I hate product reviewers who trash new tech because they cant operate it. Just like how they all hate BMW's idrive which I think is really easy to use.

I'll stick with the simple till something better comes along. The tuneflex costs less than $40 and does the job. The Nano is within easy reach of the steering wheel. Still debating whether I should give my wife the Nano or my old mini.

I agree that yours is easy to see. I have a Belkin device just like the tuneflex that came out for the ipod mini. We used to use it in our Mazda6 but the signal isnt strong enough and is always staticy. I always hated the fact that you have to do something with that thing everytime you park. I like mine hidden.

To each his/her own.

Volume is a little lower but still no big deal; no problems with static in my Nissan Alty or the Civic as the Ipod plugs into the AUX input of the head unit. My Alty has a 6 CD Changer but I tossed all the CDs out now that I use the Ipod. Maybe I should be concerned about security but I just leave it in my car.

That's it, but for the video Ipod and not the Nano. Got mine off eBay without the cassette adaptor. Check this link:

eBay - Tuneflex, MP3 Players Accessories, Consumer Electronics items on eBay.com

Might also want to check out this new after market product from Dension. Looks promising but I haven't seen any reviews.

If You Have Got The Jack, Thats All You Really Need, The Music Link Is Expensive And Annoying To Install If Your Not Savey With Tearing Apart Dashes, Also I Have A Zen Micro 8 Gb, And I Like It Way Better Than My I-pod And It Works Great With The Built In Aux Jack.

OR JUST GET AN AFTERMARKET STEREO LIKE AN ECLIPSE THAT IS I-POD READY FOR THE SAME INSTALLED PRICED OF THE MUSIC LINK, ITS AN AWESOME HEAD UNIT AND LOOKS GREAT IN THE NEW CIVICS.

Click this link...
Choose the picture 3 down on the right so you see the whole front of the car. Just forward of the shifter and ebrake, there are two spring loaded plastic covers to the right of a little storage area. one is a 12volt jack, the other is the AUX jack.

I read somewhere that on the 2006 Sedans, only the EX had the input jack. BUT on the 2007 Sedans, both the LX and EX have them.

Red face

thx for checking the cars But i'm a bit confused, cos i ordered civic sedan 4door EXE. Actually, i live in Estonia and, probably, there can be some diff in cars complectations. What i know, is that cars first go to Norway or Sweden and then to our country. And what do you mean LX and EX?

We have 1,8i Comfort MT, 1,8i Comfort AT, 1,8i Executive MT, 1,8i Executive AT car versions. Our executive comes without navi.
