Civic V Prius
To be honest Ive read ALOT of positive comments about the Prius, with alot of people choosing that over the civic.
But I believe thats because Toyota is really pushing the marketing behind this one whilst Honda have been standing in the background hoping loyal honda supporters will buy one.

Any improvements?
Im really surprised that a new car of the quality of the Civic is causing you so many issues
Did not decide to buy a Prius because of the exterior looks - IMO it is as ugly if not worse than the Insight or AMC Gremlin (apologies to owners of any of those models). I ordered my car in March through a local dealer who royally screwed up the whole deal so I had to "go my own" and find a dealer 250 miles away who was willing to find my car, get it on their lot, and I happily bought it from them. All the while I never drove a CVT-equipped vehicle, never saw a Civic Hybrid in person, never drove one or a new Civic, etc. I guess I lucked out because I love the color (Magnetic Pearl), love the techno gadgets (PCMCIA card reader/player, Nav features, ability to get higher than EPA numbers, etc.). No problems through nearly 8,000 miles and 8 weeks on Monday.
I like the ability to lay down the rear seat (Prius) and a rear wiper (Prius) but they are nearly identical on fuel economy and I'm more familiar with the Honda family than the Toyota family - plus the looks which I already mentioned.

civic is way better looking,
keep in mind the origional tax break for buying a hybrid was appr. 3100, until any given manufacturer sells 60,000 hybrid units and then the break will drop to 1600, well toyota has hit the 60,000 mark.
you will get a bigger tax break getting the civic

i'd rather prefer the Prius but since there was an 8 month waiting list i needed a new car ASAP and this was her next option so i bought her this one. but for me the Toyota was better over regardless (due to in part of the excellent torque)of the recalls they have had considering the Honda has had very little or nothing at all, which is why i chose it. but hey she likes hondas and I like Toyota, truth is she's driving it about 99 % of the time anyway so it balances out.
FWIW, neighbors that have the Prius all love their cars and report good mileage figures. I haven;t compared them side by side but would expect they're fairly comparable space & utility-wise.
i still think the Prius is better since you can fold the rear seats and extend your cargo area, a plus the civic can't due to a solid rear seat. and with a longer wheelbase it rides better though the civic handles the curves with ease, the Pirus also has more headroom (visibly), and a rear window wiper that helps in inclement weather. Like i said i don't mind the Civic since my mom drives it but i much rather gone for a Prius.Which is what i may buy later or the Camry Hybrid, or the future Corolla Hybrid.
Had a 06 Prius in June and July this year, some dolt hit us and the insurance co. totaled it. Couldn't get replacement value so went with Civic. So sorry we did that. Loved the Prius, okay with the Civic. Don't particularly like the CVT in the Civic, and have had bad Radio issues. Prius got better mileage also, we're getting 34 with the Civic and were getting 44 with the Prius. I think a lot of that difference in mpg in our case is the CVT trans and the style of driving.
Cheers.
Cheers.
