Eibach Pro-Kit Springs
Eibach Pro-Kit Springs
A friend and I installed a set of Eibach pro-kits on my car this weekend using Mex's kick-*** DIY intructions. Everything went real smooth, my friend is an experienced mechanic, he was very impressed with the instructions. Anywho, I got a question about the bump stops on the rear shocks. The instructions with the springs said not to cut the bump stops, we cut them anyway. I was told that would prevent the shocks from bottoming out as often. My question is will cutting the rear bump stops affect how low the rear end of the car sits? The Pro-Kit springs were supposed to be a 1" drop front and back. They droppped the front by about 1" but the rear dropped about 1.5". Did we fok-up by cutting the bump stops? There is about a 2finger gap on the front and no gap on the rear. I'm wondering if anyone else experienced these results or if any one had an explanation.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I didnt cut the bumper stops, not because I wanted to but because my dumbass didnt realize it until the 3rd strut. The front and back was dropped evenly. Not low as i wanted it, i wanted lower but i do notice a stiffer bounce. And i think its because i didnt cut the stops
Last time I had this much fun some furniture got broken!

Be careful as the bump stop prevents the shock from compressing beyond its engineered limit. if gone too far it can physically destroy itself on a large bump in the road or a nasty speed bump or similiar.
Also about the front, some springs have to settle, which can take days or even weeks. Let them on and after a week or two they should settle a little lower that before.

And to answer the question, no the bump-stops have nothing to do with the ride height....
on the front sounds right but on the rear no gap? that is really weird, to get no gap it must be lowered like around 2.25inches-2.50inches(correct me if i'm wrong) depends what size tires you have but 1.5 inches drops it that much does not sound right, it sould be like around 2 and a half finger gap on standard tire.

what do you have in the trunk? Subs? That will make it lower! I have subs and a lot of MDF in my trunk so its low in the rear. Looks almost lowered in the rear.
I did the install of my prokit myself as well with the help of a good friend. I didn't cut the bump stops either, because I figured its just more protection from blowing the shock. Besides, I think the amount of cutting that the Eibach instructions state you should do are negligable anyway.
i didnt cut my bumps either. my car sits even about 1 finger gap all the way areound on 225/40/18's. cutting the bump stops shouldnt effect ride height. just shock compression. if you have a system in the trunk you will probably have some sagging in the rear. surprisingly enough mine havent sagged at all. i say this because eibach lists the same part # foe sedans and coupes. they weigh about 150lbs different.
I looked at some pictures of my car before and it looks like it could be closer to 2" lower in the back. I never measured from the ground to the fender before I lowered it so I am estimating the amount of drop. It really looks about 2" lower, no subs or nothing in the trunk. No gap between the rear tire and fender. Even looking at the tires standing behind the car you can relly notice the tires are like this / \ . My tires are 225/40R17. They aren't rubbing but they are damn close. Too close. Something isn't right, I hope the rear springs miraculously settle UP an inch? I don't think the springs could go in upside down, huh? Any sugestions on a solution? I got these springs so the car wouldn't be that low, now i'm pissed.
