Static popping sound coming from speakers at high volumes
I just reinstalled my system (headunit, speakers, amps) and all looks good with the expection of a popping static sound when I get into the higher volume levels. I just had this same system installed a week ago with no problems. I thought I was going to sell my car so I removed it. The sell did not work out so here I am putting it back in.
The noise can be heard from all speakers. I have power ran back to a distribution block with 4ga wire and split to two amps with 8ga wire. The ground is to the floor board of the trunk (which the only thing different from the previous install). The grounding area was sanded to bare metal and tapped with a screw. The ground runs to a distribution block with 8ga wire and then is split to two amps with 8ga wire. Power wires and the RCA's are ran down opposite sides of the car.
The amps are an Alpine f345 V12 (powers the componet speakers) and a Rockford p3002 (bridged to a sub).
I moved my ground back to the original location. No luck
I disconnected the 2nd amp that powers the sub. No luck.
I disconnected all but one speaker from the first amp. No luck
I switched the polarity on the one speaker still connected. No luck
I found out that if I am driving my car most of the time it will play music at high volume. If I come to a stop my speakers will cut out. It plays at low volume all of the time.
It's very odd, I have no problems with the battery not being able to start my car, etc.
Any ideas?

First off, upgrade your ground wire to 4 awg. If you have 4awg going into a distribution block for your power wire.. you should have the same for your ground. It's not a BIG deal since the length of the wire shouldn't be any longer than 18 inches but do it anyways. Uniformity is good.
I think it is a little odd that when you're driving it works but when you come to a stop, it cuts out.
To me, that's telling me something is moving around when you brake. Hence, momentum. Kind of like if you were to get into a head on collision, if you're not wearing your seatbelt, you go through the windshield.
Check all your wires.
Possibly run all your wires down the center of the vehicle away from all factory wiring. It's a bit more work but it eliminates another possibility of noise.
My two cents.

I found the problem. The stock speaker wires running to the rear speakers were still connected to the head unit and crossed at the other end. Even though they were not connected to a speaker I imagine it was putting big load on the alternator. I snipped them and taped them off.
