Total Est. Time: 28 hours, 6 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 1912.98 miles
That's from my house, so lets see...
If I get 30 MPG and gas costs $2.49 per gallon, I'd need 127.53 gallons round trip at a cost of $317.55. This doesn't include the fact that I'll need a $20 oil change when I get back, I'll have taken approx 4000 miles off the life of my 19" tires at $150 each. That equals about 0.03 per mile (assuming I get 20K miles out of my tires) and would cost me about $120 in rubber). Add in the fact that the trip takes an estimated 28 hours to get there (and there is no way I'm driving straight through) and we also have to assume two things: 1) including the cost of an overnight stay 2) with 2 days in JUST travel to and from, I'd need to take at least a week off (because I'm not driving 28 hours to just stay there one day). Now lets total up our costs to stay there lets assume 1 night mid travel and 2 nights there. At an average of $69.99 per night (because you KNOW there won't be any open close hotels in NC) and we've got 209.97 in hotel fees. So far this trip has cost me a weeks vacation, 667.52 (not including food or vehicle repairs), and I drive this entire way only to have to drive the 318 available turns at 45MPH because the road is littered with cops. I have a general rule: If anything is more than 6 hours away, I fly. The idea sounds great if only it were about 1000 miles closer. So needless to say, I won't be there.

You HAVE to be analytical. Thats what life is like living with a budget. How do you know how much IS too much when you've never plugged the numbers in? Don't get me wrong the idea is really cool. If we can put together one in Cali, I'd do it. Then again we don't have a road like that in Cali. To be honest it's a year out and I doubt you will even go but think about this:
Another problem from people on the West coast is that they wanna meet on Friday. Traveling from the West means you'd have to take Thursday off and drive all Wednesday night just to get there in time. Then everyone leaves on Monday. You're gonna leave work midweek, drive for an entire week, and come back with no time to rest. It's just not practical.
Besides, we DO have meets here that are fun, you just haven't been to one of our meets yet. We have cool peeps.
