umm...this topic has been beaten with a stick about 1,000 times. Honda recommends 10,000 for regular driving or 5,000 for harsh conditions. read your manual. I think most people on this board have gotten their oil changed at 5,000-7,500. There are a few people that stick to the "every 3,000 mile" strategy. Totally up to you man.

i changed it myself at 1000, 3000 and let the dealer do it at 7.5k. i pretty much change the oil myself at 3k and then wait 4.5 for the dealer to do it (so my 100k warranty can't be voided).

aaaaahhhhhh

you changed it at 1000? you should leave the initial oil in for at least 5k, b/c the first oil is specially formulated for use during engine break in.....

edit: changing your own oil and never taking it to the dealer wont violate your warranty, just as long as you can prove you do the maintenence yourself

The same special oil you buy right off the shelf..........

I changed my filter at 1000 and topped off the oil.....then at 3K let the dealer do it...then every 3K......

when i left honda, they told me before i have my oil change, don't ever have the car in one constant speed. they said it would wear out the engine.. because the oil isn't a normal blend

When I bought my 00 accord and 02 civic, I was told not to do the first oil change until the book recommends it. Nothing about how to drive the car. It just says in the book to not 'accelerate rapidly' till the car has reached 600 miles. I think I am going to change mine at 5k and put in synthetic.

just trying to stop some n00b from reading that and saying "well hell i'll change at 1000 then"

besides, sure the car is still running but what if it wasnt broken in quite as well as a car with 7500 @ first change....

The original oil is supposed to contain a blend of additives to help with proper break-in. The Honda techs around here will send you home if you haven't reached 8000km, which is 5000 miles NOT 5500!!! (4971 to be exact)

It's a logical unit of measurement that is based on the metric system as opposed to Imperial measure which is based on the length of Old King George's flaccid *****. (I think???)

I brought my car to the dealer I purchased it from for the first oil change at 1200 miles and they changed the oil without comment.

I checked the owner's manual today and it does say in the breaking in section to wait for the mileage or time period required in the maintence section for the first change, although it does not say why. It also say at the top of that section that the break in period is 600 miles. The car is at 5000 miles and seems ok, but now I am concerned. I wish if Honda was going to have these special procedures, they would make it clearer to new owners. I know you are responsible for reading the manual, but I was conditioned to the idea of the early first oil change. If the dealer could care less, then what good is going to them, idiots.

I hope 1200 miles was enough time.
