Well heres the story of how I wasted 3 hours. Yesterday I got my alpine type s 6x9s in the mail. Then today I go to install them on my 01 coupe, I take out the rear seat , the rear deck and the two sidepanels then I spend like 5 minutes unscrewing the screw thats right next to the windshield which was a pain in the a$$. I take out the stock speaker clip and the wire to test fit the alpines. OH NO! It hits that dam trunk spring and wont fit so I went out to the trunk to see if theres anyway around it and decide to take out the springs because I thought I could do without them... big mistake cause its a bish to take the springs out. I didnt have the right tool so I used a screwdriver and wrench to take it out. DONT do it the way I did cause I smashed one of my pinkies and cut a tiny chunk out of the other and when I did get the spring off the lid slammed into my back. I was pissed at this point and went inside to get bandaids. The 6x9s do fit without the springs but the trunk wont open if the springs arent there so... I had to put the springs back this time wearing heavy gloves and then reinstalled the stock speakers and redid that dam screw next to the window and put my car back together.
THE END
All this would have been worth it if the Alpines fit but I'm still stuck with the stock speakers so yea what a bad day. I know I made many mistakes but when I get some new toy I get real excited and have to have it in and working. Now I can tell people my civic whooped my a$$. The good news is that I got to clean the rearwindow real well (yea you guys are probly pointing at me like haha wasted 3 hours just so he could clean his dam window). Oh one quiestion for you guys with aftermarket speakers, how the hell did you guys get them to fit! Otherwise Ill have some like new 6x9s for sale

I have 6x9 alpine type r and they fit but I had a shop put them in its a tight fit. I think they used some dynamat around the hole to lift the speakers up just a tiny bit so they barley clear.
Yeah, I ran into the same problem. That's why I used the DIY and fixed the spring problem. All you need to do is put some shocks on the trunk. http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...ight=trunk+diy

I had 5 way pioneers with a huge *** magnet. I had to do the trunk shock DIY though... let me search for it.

Yeah, what Tom said. Save the money on a better set for the front.

Wow I can finally get back on this site, for some reason it never loaded correctly. Thanks for all the input, didnt even know about the trunk spring diy. Now I just need to get around to doing this, gonna be hard to overcome the first bad experience well maybe not too hard but anyways now there's some sort of hope. I know the rear is only for fill in but its not very clear when the volumes up past half. I'm gonna get components for the fronts later any recommendations?

Yesterday I installed the trunk springs and then today I installed the alpines! They sound awesome even though theyre only powered by my alpine headunit
wootOh yea those are the 60lb springs, I dont have a spoiler or anything so the trunk opens automatically when I pull the lever
