Weight to HP ratio???

Has anyone done a weight to horsepower ration for a 2k1 EX? I was just thinking it would interesting to know, someone should know the weight of the car, I suppose I could look it up, by my manual is in the car out in the garage..so call me lazy...anyway, does anyone know? and how it compares to other similar cars, and to killer cars like a viper for instance? Would be interesting to know...

first of all, as an enthusiast you should know your weight by heart, hehe, if not, you should use the resources of the internet, you can find car weights everywhere... its a great way to predict a car's overall speed based on power/torque:weight, transmission, gearing, etc.

my auto ex coupe weighs about 2590 lbs empty, power/weight is 1hp/20lbs, extremely sad, torque/weight is 1lbs-ft/22lbs, even worse

compare to some of the competition that many riceboys on this site claim they can "kill" easily:

BASE mustang v-6 5-speed, p/w - 1hp/16lbs, t/w - 1lbs-ft/14lbs
focus zx3 5-speed, p/w - 1hp/20lbs, t/w - 1lbs-ft/19lbs
echo 5-speed, p/w - 1hp/19lbs, t/q - 1lbs-ft/19lbs (yep thats right, an echo has better power and torque to weight than a civic ex)
elantra gt 5-speed, p/w - 1hp/19lbs, t/q - 1lbs-ft/19lbs

the power to weight ratios are usually listed backwards...so its listed as lbs per hp

20lbs / hp is very high (high is bad)......the new civic si is around 17lbs / hp (the honda odyssey with its 240 hp and over 4,000 lbs has a mid 17lbs / hp rating)

in contrast...my crx with the b16a is 10lbs / hp...if i'd put in a crvtec turbo to get 450whp (full race setup) i'd have around 3.2lbs per hp (~ 500hp at flywheel)...the car would be uncontrollable

cart/f1 cars are < than 1lb / hp

It depends on what weight listing's you are looking at too remember? Trim level, coupe/sedan, accessories, curb weight, MT/AT, passengers, cargo, blah blah blah!

I've posted about this before, an Echo, and it has been tested by the car mags, can and does beat a Civic EX. Of course so will an El Camino, that doesn't mean that you'll look cool doing it

from honda...the weights of all the civics are 2403 (dx coupe 5 rag 20.5 p/w) to 2615 (EX sedan slurpeeBoX 20.59 p/w).

the best power to weight is the ex 5-spd at (20.18s & 20.11c) and the worst is an LX sedan autogleatin 21.86s

your range is 1.75

so as a whole you are looking at 20.95 +/- .875 lb/hp

no matter what way you cut it "it's build for economy, not for speed"

-m

edit:

and thats not including a person, you tack a 200lb me into a civic and the weight soars to 2750 lbs and not the ex-s has a p/w of 21.65 up from 20.18 - a difference of 1.47 lb/hp

do the same thing in a heavier car and it makes less of an impact a 3600lb 200hp example - before = 18 after = 19 a difference of 1 lb/hp

you load a civic full of people and its easy to see that you better think twice before putting money down on a race against that yellow school bus....

well also consider if you are fat. that kinda makes the car heavier.. plus rims, and if u have a fat subwoofer box in the trunk. not that it helps too much, but if you are skinny like me, (have no more sub box cuz amp blew), take out the spare, etc, it will be faster. haha. no offense to fat people. just funny when i see a REALLY fat dude driving a modded civic...
