sub power surge at power on/off
hey, first of all i apologise for not being able to find this post previously... i know someone has had to have this problem before me. i have an 2005 EX SE 2door and just hooked up a sub/amp to the Special Edition deck. the sub works and everything sounds great, although, the problem is that when i press the power on and off from the deck, like a second after i hit the button i get what sounds like a power surge through my amp making my sub hit a really loud and really low note that fades in for a second then fades out slowly. i've noticed that if i turn down the gain level on the amp, it does the surge only as loud as the gain will let it. likewise, if the amp gain level is like 3/4 way and i'm controling the bass with a remote bass ****, the surge is literally putting 3/4 of it's power into the sub in that instant. i have my amp hooked up without RCA's because there aren't any on the Special Edition deck... i am using the in-line high input levels spliced from the rear speakers and my remote power comes from the cigarette lighter like everyone suggests. is this a wiring problem? is something wrong with the amp? is it the bass ****? is there already a post the clearly explains this problem?
thank you for your time and i look forward to hearing from you guys.

i'm running an Audiobahn A2002T intake series amp that i bought off eBay brand new. it's grounded to the trunk hitch U-Bolt, is it possible that this could be caused from my ground wire being too long? (possibly a 4'-5' ground wire)

the trunk hitch what now? the wire should have a proper sized terminal and should be bolted securely to a clean, paint-free metal surface.

it's cause you connected your remote wire to ignition, cig. lighter or switched 12V instead of an actual remote, so when you turn your headunit on and off, the amp still stays on, it only turns off when your car is off, so thats why you hear that. your amp has a delay of a few seconds before it comes on when you turn on your headunit to not hear that, but in your case it doesnt work like that cause your remote wire is not connected to your HU. but there is nothing else you can do cause your headunit doesn't have a remote output. why are you turning on and off the headunit anyways? it shuts off by itself when you turn off the car.
and also, your grounding method is not a good location, shorthen it and put it near the rear seats on a big bolt that is there somewhere.

well, i use the power off button while i'm driving and for instances where my phone will ring, or just when something needs to be heard over the music... the power off button is just the quickest way to make it quiet. i know i can just turn down the volume and that's what i have been doing lately, and also just letting the car turn off the HU when i park, but i would like to use the power button. 05reverb was correct, this happens when the car is already on (in ACC) and i turn the power either on or off. i have read about the Turn-On Pop Delay N-66 and i think that is used if i have a remote wire from my HU, and the remote powers on the sub-amp before the HU... i googled "turn off thump" and found sites suggesting a "turn-off delay to the processor" and another suggesting "add a turn on delay module in line with the remote turn on wire to the amp"... i'm so lost on this... i basically need the sub-amp to go on second and off first so i won't get thump...

you can't do it with no remote output, cause there is nothing to trigger off the amp when you press the power button on the headunit. nothing knows when you turn off just the headunit unless you have a remote output. there is one solution, you could buy like a pac tr-7 or something like that, that can be triggered by the low voltage from the speakers, so you'd have to tap on one of your speaker wires, and then it would trigger when it gets voltage from the speaker it would turn on amp. thats the only thing i can think of. but really, i dont think it's all that neccesary, in fact, if i remember when i had that exact same headunit in my car, it had a mute, so use the mute instead of turning it off.
