Can anyone get Alpine parts? Screwed on eBay..
I bought an IVA-D901 off eBay from this lady in Covina, CA who claimed it was 3 months old. Unit looked great but I get it home and the LCD screen has a few problems. Local car shop estimates repairs at 650. This lady is trying to screw me and it sucks fairly bad. PacParts doesn't have the monitor either and this doesn't fall within Alpine "$105 and we'll fix anything" terms. I'm debating buying a monitor only on eBay and salvaging the lcd from it. Can anyone get this part? I think i can use the D900 screen as well...

Here is the problem: Two vertical lines running down the screen. Pretty disappointing considering I drove 300 miles from AZ to CA to HAND DELIVER this lady cash. Sent her multiple emails before she told me "you know you got this unit for less than half the value.I did not lie about the unit it had no visul damage ,and i put know refund so you can leave your feedback, cause I dont really care .you expect me to give you the money to repairit, when you got a great deal on this your crazy." <--- THATS LITERALLY CUT AND PASTED.
lol yeah I got a GREAT deal on a unit where it will cost more than 50% of what I paid to repair it. I guess 100% positive feedback isn't enough these days. My guess is that her son (who she told me it belonged to AFTER I drove 300 miles) knew it was too much to fix and figured he could pawn it off on poor old Mom's eBay account, get negative feedback, and be done with it. Not gonna happen.

Ya I'm trying to go through eBay's Trust & Safety (SafeHarbor) system. This is what I posted today, "Item Significantly Not As Described: Alpine iva-d901 With i-pod adapter (#290013751298)
Payment Method: Cash
Payment Date: Aug-05-2006
Additional Details: I drove 300 miles to pick up item described as being only 3 months old and in perfect condition. Upon
powering unit up, the LCD screen is defective and repairs are estimated at $650. (I have repair
estimate in hand). This is more than 50% of the cost of the unit. I have sent 3 emails to the seller.
Seller remains uncooperative. I feel the info in the listing was untrue (seller told me after buying
that the unit was not hers). I would like a full refund. I have all email correspondance available."
I'll post her response... if I ever get one..

Man that sucks. Go for the 300 mile drive, and if she doesn't answer the door. Here's what you should do.
I would literally steal her tires off her car, and leave it like that until she agreed to fix the unit. If she never decides to pay up, you can sell off your rims and tires..lol. Make sure you bring some friends with you. You don't want to get your a$$ wooped by her son, and maybe her husband. Don't forget your jack, blocks to put the car on, and a socket set with a torque wrench.
GL with this situation.

Damn, that's a terrible situation. I myself just bought an IVA-D900 on eBay. It also wasn't quite as described but not as bad as yours. The seller listed it as "immaculate" and "gently used" (exact wording), but when I got it and looked at the front panel, it looks like it's seen some rough times. Granted it works perfect, but it definitely wasn't "immaculate" and "gently used". I still don't know what I'm going to do about his feedback, I was thinking about leaving neutral, but I'm starting to lean towards negative, as he hasn't replied to my e-mail yet.
Anyway, to the point... if you are adept with repairing electronics, you could try contacting an Alpine authorized repair depot and seeing if you can get a screen from them (or even from Alpine directly if possible). If you don't know of one, I can get you the number of one that is local to me, although it's here in Canada. Turboslug on this board has a lot of experience with Alpine units, but I don't think he's worked much with the IVA series. But maybe send him a PM and see if he can offer any advice, he's a good guy.
Good luck!

Go through ebay first. I just got a $200 refund for a unit that was defective and the buyer said it was NIB. You should have gone through paypal thought. They will freeze the paypal accounts and divert there deposits to your account. I loved when she sold something, cause I would get the money!

Was that $200 a full refund, or a partial?
I though about complaining to eBay about my deck, but I don't want a full refund, as that would involve sending it back and then having to buy another deck, which I don't want to do since this one works. I would petition to get a portion of it back because of the not as described problems.

YA but I JUST read that the refund process doesn't work when you pick the item up vs. shipping. Funny thing too as I was too worried to send $1100 via Paypal. lol I did, however, file for it just in case. I have her address. Anybody want it?

Here's something that may interest you, I found a site through Crutchfield that carries Alpine parts... http://crutchfield.partsearch.com. I couldn't find a D901 LCD on there, but I did find the D900 screen. You should be able to make it work with the D901, I'm not sure if it has the green lights of the D900 on it, but I am sure you could swap the housings from your bad D901 monitor.
The screen isn't cheap, but it would probably be around the same as the loss you would take if you tried to resell your unit. If you are technically inclined enough to do it yourself, it shouldn't be TOO bad.

First of this is my unit,it was in my son car which I bought it therefore it was mine.I described in
my details that it had no scratchs on it,and that it was in perfect working cond.He has confused me
on how he got my home phone and why he would want to come to pay cash for it.
My response:

Contact seller is a tool eBay provides you. The item is defective and the $650 repair order shows
that. I can provide any/all proof that the item has a defective screen and is NOT in perfect condition.
If this item is perfect, then take it back! I'm already out hundreds of dollars. Regardless of symantics
, the item was advertised as perfect and is far from it. I do not wish to waste anymore time or money.
If you are refusing to take responsibilty for this then I will escalate the claim.
Thats what the screen costs the repair shop.

Got any friends who are in law school?? Maybe a lawyer who's a friend of the family?? While I do carry a baseball bat in my trunk, and have considered using it to resolve e-screwings on eBay (I almost drove from NY to FL to "work out" a dispute over a cell phone bought on eBay), I'd say taking the legal route would be the better approach. It says nothing about the item being sold "as is" and the listing doesn't mention "know returns", let alone "no returns". She's hoping that her being a tool about this will get you to just give up. Seek legal counsel. It'll probably be a pain in the @$$ across state lines, but look into dragging her to court for this. If you win, you can also get her to pay for your lawyer, missed time from work and mileage if you have to go down there again. Not to mention all the stress and undue suffering she's caused you. Good luck, and keep us updated.

UPDATE: Her response at the bottom, then my rebuttal.

Great condition vs. perfect condition is a symantic arguement. If you are implying that this is
something that I could have done, I will be more than happy to get Alpine's opinion on the matter
before I file with the small claims court office at 1427 West Covina Parkway. This isn't about obtaining
your information (which EBAY provided me). You either knowingly sold me a defective unit or didn't
know your merchandise well enough to claim "great condition". This IS grounds for a court case.
virgina1775 Aug-19-06 at 10:23:24 PDT
First the description says that the unit is used, second it does not read in perfect working condition
it states it is in great condition, second this gentlemen got information that he should not have
been able to get as my home phone, this unit was used and we had three t.v's in the car and there was
no lines, after he received the unit i don't know what happened.
