Magnaflow Exhaust
I just received my exhaust and I bolted it on, sounds really nice btw but I have an extra pipeand I have no idea where its suppose to be and the exhaust works fine, anybody know what I'm talking about? Thanks.
yeah the extra pipe is for the dx ,,,just store it somewhere,,,,,if you ever decide to sell it, you wont be limited to sell it to peeps with ex, know what i mean,,,or in the future if one of your pipes gets f'd up or something, you can take that extra piece and cut it to replace the old,,,kapeesh
Hey Ghetto, did you have any problems installing? Did you DIY?
I'll be getting mine today and installing it tomorrow, but the few people that have gotten it so far have had problems puttin it on....

I put my system on last night. I had a problems with the muffler connection to the midpipe leaking. I couldn't get rid of the leak for the life of me. So, I am going to have that section welded. I think this is an isolated problem and you should be fine. Second, the muffler's tip was resting up aganst the bumper so I had to bend the hangers to take of that. All in all, it's a pretty easy install. Didn't go as smooth as when I installed a greddy system on my accord though. I have an ex sedan by the way. I don't think the coupes have the muffler clearence issues. Look at the DIY megathread and check out the magnaflow link to get an overall understanding of what you are going to do.

Just returned from Midas. Apparantly I had 2 connections that were leaking. One you really couldn't feel the exhaust coming out, but you could hear it. I don't think the U-bolts make for a leak proof connection. The connection to the cat was just fine. I took a board and put it up aganst the end of the pipe and hammered the mid-pipe aganst the cat and got that one on really well. Overall, I am very pleased with the looks of the system. It is definately quiet, almost too quiet in my opinion. My @ss didn't detect any increase in performance, but the engine does seems to pull more strongly and freely up to redline. Some loss of low end torque, which is to be expected, but not to the extreme that usually happens.

well, it took me and my brother about 3 hours haha, because we had really bad tools, all hand, the jacks were manual, and we took our time like no other, in the end it was simple, but so far with problems....I see none right now anyways
Got mine yesterday too and it went on today. The only problem I've had with mine so far was with the tail pressing completely against the bumper. Tried adjusting by bending the muffler hangers but that didnt solve it. So I pulled down on the muffler and wedged a small block of metal into the gap on the rubber hanger which opens up wider when you pull down on it. That did the trick. The system is not as loud as I was expecting...often can barely hear it over the intakes noise which is fine for me.

I like your solution for the bumper. I didn't think of that. It is awful quiet. It's almost like it is too quiet to have such a big and obvious can you know?
I jsut got mine on today. I love it. it sounds perfect. The only problem I have is that it hangs pretty low...and when i came home after getting it installed, I scraped on my driveway
So now I am going to have to park it across the street and get an alarm since I cant park it in my driveway anymore...

Yes, they can be turned so the bolts are pointing to the side instead of down. I had the muffler welded to the resonator and the resonator welded to the midpipe. I only have the u-bolt at the midpipe-cat conection. Haven't had any problems. I guess the welds are kinda permanent though. If indeed the u-bolts are pointed downward, just carry it back and tell them to turn them or something.
Thank Mbow!!
Yes they are pointed downwards, and they hang very low, which is why they are scraping. I'll have them turned so I can finally park in my garage again.

I installed mine on saturday and had no problems. I don't know whta you guys are doing, but mine looks fine and I have a sedan. The only "big" mod we had to do was make sure the tip wasn't touching the bumper. To fix that we drilled two small holes (unnoticable) on the bottom of the bumper and with some wire hung the bamper back as far as we could. I don't know if the mod makes any sense
but it help the problem.
I put mine on last Sat. it was a pretty easy install. the toughest part was bending the hangers so it woulnd't be touching my bumper.
i heard that it will smoke and stuff for 15-20 min. But i have driven it about 2 days for a total of about 100 mi and i haven't seen smoke (i'm in the driver seat)but it does stink when i park... I get out and there is a nasty exhaust smell... it isn't the normal one or maybe it's jsut amplified but whatever the case... it smells bad.
should i be worrried? will this go a way soon or is it something that should have gone away by now and i need it checked out?

Yea, it will go away soon. It's weird getting out of the car and it smelling like a bear fart. It will burn in with time. Just drive it real hard. Mine went away after 4 days or so.
<< DIY stink bomb. >>
lol. Yeah, I know what ya mean. Mine still smells but its only been on for 3 days. Well, I got the u-bolts turned yesterday and guess what...I dont scrape on my driveway anymore! So i can have my beloved garage back. Now thats thats taken care of, all I can say is I am extremely pleased with this exhaust, I love it!

LOL That bear fart comment got me first thing this morning, can't stop laughing.
Got my Magnaflow yesterday evening. If I can get my nerve up I'll install it myself this weekend or I might just look for a good muffler shop since I know I will get impatient waiting.

Hey all....I've been reading your posts and would like to make the following comments:
1. Smell......The smell is the grease used in mandrel bending burning off, it's that white stuff you see on the inside of the pipes...It will burn off in a few days
2. The U-Bolt should be turned sideways, or if installed by a shop, have them cut the excess off with a sawzall or dremmel (if they cut with a torch, it'll get messy)another option is getting a BandClamp maybe a $5.00 sold I believe by JC Whitney or your local VW dealer or patr distributor specializing in Vw's( The Band Clamp is OE on most VW systems and seems to be a good option)
3. To get the tip to sit where you want it, have one person HOLD the muffler in the location you want it(with all sections loosely assembled), while holding, have someone else do the final tightening ...
