05 SE/reverb 6 disc HU - is it any good???

Hey all,

I am thinking of purchasing the HU, I have an alpine 9855 and the metra kit but i dont like the non-stock look of the whole thing.

I dont have upgraded speakers, neither do i have amps/subs and will never in this car.

Will the SE HU sound similar, thats the only thing holding me back, i really want to go back to stockish unit, the power on the stock deck is weak so i dont want to go back to that but i noticed the SE deck is 40 x 4 compared to alpines 50 x 4 and yes i do realize those arent the rms values......

i have only heard the SE HU a couple times, does it sound good???? is it a good idea to get it?? will i be happy with the sound? im perfectly fine with how the alpine sounds with stock speaks....

and does anyone know how much the SE console piece costs so i dont have the straight edges on my current console showing........thanks

Smile 05 SE/Reverb 6 disc Changer

I bought one for my 04 LX Sedan back in February. It definitely is better than stock. It seems to have more power, but thats not saying much considering stock is so weak. It looks better with a coupe because the lighting is Orange/Amber. You can buy a remote for it at Honda or on Ebay. The only real problem is that the face is hard to read in the sun, just like most aftermarket radios. Thats why I sold mine & put in an Alpine. Contrary to popular belief, the radio is manufactured by Panasonic not Alpine. Its a good radio & I would have kept it but i did not like the looks of it at night in the sedan as the Amber clashed with the light green background. I see you have a coupe so that wont be a problem. It appears to be a quality built component. It does not have RCA jacks on the back for adding a Sub or amp. It plugs right up to the stock wiring. It has an auxillary mini plug on the front which will work well with an MP3 player. You will need the radio bezel from an 05 SE to make it look good. Mine came with the radio so I don't know exactly what it costs. I did price a regular bezel out once & it was $54.00 at Honda.
It is definitely an upgrade from stock & is a good looking radio. Hope this answers your questions.

Get it is all I can say...Double Din is sexy and if you have a silver/black theme like I got goin, its perfect. And like Jay mentioned, the backlight for the buttons are orange so if you have a 01-02, its matches with the tach. Only snag is gettin the 05 SE center console (where the radio and temp. buttons reside)

thanks for the info, how did the SE HU sound compared to the alpine?

how much did you end up selling yours for with the console? how much did you buy it for?

finally, how did you install the alpine deck, what kit did you use? did the screw holes match up to install it with the factory screws?
thats the reason im thinking of selling mine, it doesnt install very well with metra kit, it leans back and there are gaps around it.........and I also have the issue with not being able to see it during the day, so you say the SE unit has the same problem.................?

sorry, i can't sell it for that cheap, i'll use it at home before selling it for that price, so your better off getting it on ebay. it does really look good with the se/reverb dash (perfect fit), so if you can get it for 250$ + the 54$ dash piece, i say go for it, you won't regret it cause it's a really nice HU

I bought mine on Ebay for about $200 & sold it on Ebay for $330. I got lucky. Be sure to get the security code or you will have to pay Honda to recover it. I used the Metra kit that keeps the stock pocket.(99-7897) I think. I did not use the normal stock holes as that made it sit too far back. I used some smaller screws & pushed the radio as far forward as the Metra kit would allow. This worked out much better. The other Metra kit that makes you lose the stock pocket is big enough to let you use the Alpine trim ring. That will close any gaps. If the radio is leaning back you probably only used 2 screws. Use at least one more or put some foam between the bottom of the radio & the pocket. This will keep it from leaning or ratling. The radio sounds good. If you are only using stock speakers & not playing it at earth shaking levels it compares nicely to the Alpine. I had a 9855 for two weeks, I could not get used to the glide touch. I changed to an older 9833 & the holes lined up much better. Alpine must have changed something. You still can't see much of the screen during the daytime. I have tried a Pioneer DEH-p6600, An Alpine CDA-9856, An Alpine CDA-9855, & finally an Alpine CDA-9833.
