hey guys, i am getting my turbo soon and i want everything to turn out right. what oil do you guys reccomend and how often should i change my oil? do you boost guys stick with a certain oil filter? i ussually do mobile 1 with just a regular FRAM filter everything 3k miles.

That is funny I have been looking at the add for weeks on the back of several magazines. red line is up there, so is greddy, but NOT that purple crap. It is not as good.

Yes, Honda does recomend what you are running but that is for stock.
Even in your cold climate i would use 5w30, if you were any warmer I would say go with 5w-40.

I see what you're saying. I thought about it, but the funny thing is that Honda doesnt say to use different kinds of oil for witnter or summer use.
So I just do what they say, Honda knows their cars best.
The brand that I go with is always Castrol GTX.
I used this oil on many of my different cars: Honda, Toyota, Chevy, Ford, Nissan, Acura - no problems.
I dont like to run after new brands, Castrol is a very respected brand and I trust them.

well i live in vegas and it gets hot as a mother f'er over here. 100 high on the average..... i am gettin boosted soon. i asked some of my buddies they told me to get full synthetic 5w30 oil. but i still dont know what to stick with, oil seems like a pretty touchy subject

the way you should do it:

----fully synthetic such as quaker stake...----
-----5w-30----
-- 5.5 quarts for me
cheap oil filter, or something thats not heavy duty

and change oil every 1,000 miles

mobil 1 would be just fine, you dont need any special oil. 3k on an oil, especially mobil 1 is no sweat.

In your shoes, i'd run any synthetic 5w-20 for 5k, with a wix/napa gold filter. you could go even longer than 5k honestly, but that might be pushing it since youre use to only going 3k and that would probably be a hard habit to break.

turbo cars need more oil.... the oil runs throught the turbo, you need more oil than regular civic that uses about 4 quarts
the oil runs throught the oil line from the oil sending unit, from the back of the engine to the turbo, any more comments???

no u dont need any more oil! the difference in the amount of extra oil needed is small. most of you are acting like you know nothing about cars, maybe you just dont. you do what you want if that works for you but mine runs fine and oil pressure is where it is supose to be with a little over 4 qrts.

stock civics need 3.75 quarts of oil. i ussually put maybe almost 3.9 or something alright thanks for your help guys why cant boiler walk in here? he lives in the hot weather too so he would know what is best.

your note supposed to use synthetic oil with turbos...its too thin...just stick with 4 quarts of 5w20 regular oil and a honda oil filter and u'll be fine

Well i dont know what you've heard, but its wrong. Increased oil temps is no reason to switch to a thicker oil. I'm not going to search because theres nothing for me to "learn". Theres really only one reason i see switching to a thicker oil if you run a turbo on your civic, and thats the possibility of an increase in fuel dilution in the oil.

Dont believe everything you hear. Most of the information on motor oil i see floating around on this site is wrong

dude what are you talking about? a t88 bolted on to what engine? where do you get this information from? just because someone has a huge turbo on their car doesnt mean they know anything about oil.
