I personally think that the only manufacturer I would leave Alpine for is Pioneer. Kenwood isn't in the same class.

Just curious, why were you thinking of making the change?

Come to think of it, isn't that model number for a Pioneer Premier HU? I'm liking the DEH-P880PRS but if you're going with the last gen. of HUs the DEH P860MP was the shiznit. It had the top (except for the P9) features, including the sweet self-tuning thing where it uses an internal mic to tune the system automatically.

DEH-8600MP is a Pioneer not a Kenwood....

I woudln't consider Alpine to a Pioneer or Kenwood an upgrade unless the models are different.

Alpine has some great sounding decks.

crutchfield.com if you want reviews/feat. What do you need our opinion for?

I've been really happy with both of my Pioneer decks; I currently have the 7600MP, and the only maintenance thing I've needed to do is periodically run a disc cleaner through it. It has the OEL display, and I have no issues with it washing out to the point that it's not visible.

hm....there are couple things which lead me to believe that this HU has a "dumb" software.

first, it has pioneer ridiculous shuffle system. you basically have to wait for the song to end so you can get randomized song. if you press the FF button, it won't pick the next song randomly. strange eh?

next, the player has stupid mp3 browsing system. as you know, you can access the music browser by turning the right **** clockwise. now....in my opinion, the player should pin-point the song that it's currently playing when we're entering the browser, right? it's not the case with this HU....it goes to the beginning of the root directory...

......

I have a Kenwood and I love it. Had a pioneer and the face plate broke. Had a sony got stolen. Kenwood seems to be a good product to me.

The DEH-P880PRS is a great deck. I considered this deck before I got my deh-p9800bt. The self tuning thing you are talking about is called "auto time alignment", and the deh-p8600mp has that feature too. The only difference btw the deh-p8600mp, and the premier deh-p860mp is the pre outs. The 860 has 6.5 v pre outs, and 8600 has 4 v preouts. Both decks have auto time alignment. I have the 8600, and I've used the auto alignment several times now.

The 8600 is not that good looking. It looks alright imo, but nothing fancy. The screen is alright, not overly impressive. I must say its a great deck SQ wise. If Pioneer never came out with a BT deck, I would have never upgraded from my deh-p8600mp. I would have kept this deck in my car. Anybody who owns or has own this deck will tell you its a great deck.

I love how most people have opinions about this deck, but have never owned it or used it before. I can read specs on a paper or a website too. Specs don't mean jack, until you actually use the product. The other thing I love is how people in the "ICE" forum always say "alpine" "alpine". I not saying alpine is a bad choice, but it depends on the models, not just the name brand. You can't compare the 8600mp to say something like the alpine 9847. IMO the 8600 would blow that deck out of the water.

You will love this deck if you get it. I have no regrets from buying this deck. Second best deck I've had in my 7thgen. My current deck is the best one now.

btw, just for everyone's info, I've owned alpine decks before as well.

I have a DEH-P8600MP deck. I just upgraded to a AVIC-D1 Navi system. The 8600 is an awesome deck. I had it in my car for around 2 years and never had a problem with it. But I wanted a navi system so I got the D1. I love the D1. It's a double din hu and looks factory in my car ('03 coupe).
