Exclamation Help with Valve/Cam

As much negative feed back as I have heard about the crower cams I went with a Stage 2t Cam well today it was installed and cranked up Sounded F%*&ing BAD A$$ man but you could tell that the Valves needed some adjusting well the pull the Valve cover off and adjust the valves except for two because one of the two will not open now the timing has been check, checked twice and rechecked plus the springs have been checked ect. And the cam rotates as it should. The only thing I can come up with is (A) that the valve is bent because it lifted to high before the adjustment or (B) the one Lobe is not within Spec.

What do you guys think before I rip apart the head to replace a valve an hope it will run right or go ahead and have the lobes micked for their specs and base my repairs on that!?!?!?!?

Yes, a valve on the intake side is closed (Bent).

I pulled the head and the valve is practically in a (L) Shape. I am still waiting on crower to call me back and send me a spec sheet so I can mic it. If its not the cam then I truly have no idea what the hell happened because time is dead on valves are set to crower specifications and all the bolts were torque to Honda. 7th geners I am absolutely dumb founded if you have any knowledge of motors not even 7th gen civics please through out some input, thank you.

For the mean time I am going to put the OEM Cam in until I have a better understanding of this Cam, and possible have it machined slightly.

ok! no wait!

Just so I can understand you.

You installed a stage 2 cam(your self)

Start the car, something went wrong (I assume instantly)

You thought it was you valves needing to be adjusted, so

you open the head & BAM bent valve???

Is that what happened??????

Easy Explanation

1) Pulled the valve cover removed OEM Cam.

*Side note OEM Cam has the teeth for a Distributor (off subject but I think it’s a Y8 Cam also on the head it has the ear for bolting a Distributor)

2) Replaced with Stage 2t Cam (S2tC) from Crower and put on the AEM tru timing gear (5 bolt) checked it, set it to 0 and tightened it down, then locked it up to the S2tC then place in. and bolted it up to torque specifications. Also put in Crower Springs and Retainers.

(3) Before I replaced the valve cover I turned the motor over 3 times count them three times to see how things looked and to check it all. Every thing looked great!

(4) Replaced Valve cover, coil packs and blah, blah, blah

(5) Turned the motor over cranked up and immediately shut off. Cranked the motor over once more gave it some gas and it stayed on but the valves needed adjusting. (sounded mean as F*&%, but I loved it) also could hear valve chatter.

(6) So I pulled the blah, blah, blah and coil packs and valve cover. I began adjusting valves from the rockers (I don’t know if you guys have done this but there is a screw above the valve) anyway I have 14 valves adjusted and I get to this one the rocker just rolls back and forth. I turn the motor over by hand and the valve wont lift, just wont move at all. I come to the conclusion that a. it’s a bent valve or b. it’s a busted or just ****ed spring. Its obviously not the spring after inspection…

(7) I pull the head a remove the valve it is latterly in the shape of the letter (L)

(8) I have replaced the valve and head gasket. Put back the OEM Cam and AEM timing gear. I am a little reluctant to crank the car. Frankly ‘mI worried that its not the S2tC and it the AEM Cam Gear and that 0 is in fact not 0

(9) still waiting on Crower to call me back after numerous calls!!! All I want is the Fing spec sheet for the S2tC

(10) Ill update you guys and/or gals tomorrow afternoon.

i see a few problems. one, do you know how to install springs/retainers? its not just a simple swap. second, the aem gear has all the timing marks that stock has, and the pin to make sure the cam lines up. i doubt you messed up the gear unless you really have no clue about lining up the timing marks. you say you put the cam in and then started the car?? you need to do the valve adjustment BEFORE starting the car. its a completely new cam i'm surprised you didnt ruin the whole motor and bend all the valves or burn them. sounds like alot more damage than a bent valve.

hope it works out

All right to answer your question I do know how to tear down and rebuild a motor. Second I turned the motor over 3 (THREE) times with a torque bar on the crank before starting it just to be safe it looked fine. So cranked then began adjusting. But thanx for the luck I hope it works out considering this is my daily driver. Because I hate driving my Mazda 3000 truck with the 302 (5.0) swap, motor sux *** on gas mileage.

Ohh Radom thought if it was timing I do believe that my problem would extend to for more valves than just one intake valve, don’t you think? The oddest thing in this whole situation is that it is just ONE damn valve. That is what bothers the **** out of me!

Like I said before, that’s why I believe the S2tC is out of spec

ohh Yeah!

Everything is good been driving with cam for some time with little adjustment to the map. Even though im not turbo yet it pulls noticeable hard, A friend was with me (background) he drives a 03 ex civic we used to run side by side. We were on I85 south I dropped it to 3rd hit it climbed to about 125Mph or so (he said) and brought it back down to 70Mph he looked at me lol and said he wont race me anymore. I extremely happy with the clutch flywheel and cam!!! Lol my friend 2! Just need money for boost if I could only afford Tuning and fuel return setup!!! Can some post a link for DIY fuel return, please?
