internal wastegate problems
internal wastegate problems
Hey guys i m new at this, and i tryin to build my own turbo kit. I got a turbo with an internal wastegate that is set right now to fully open at 15 psi(there doesn't look like any adjustment on it), but i have stock internals so i don't plan on runnin that much boost. i want to run between 7psi. how do i do this? boost controller? if so how does that work?
yeah my wastegate actuator looks like that, but i pressure tested it, and it doesn't open till 15 psi. so even if i move the threaded shaft how will that open the wg any earlier, cuz it still won't move till 15psi is reached. also the same for the boost controller, from my own understanding a boost controller can only adjust boost from the preset wga to any boost above that, but not open it before the preset wga psi. sorry i just don't understand. any help is appreciated.

you cant adjust it down. That is the base setting on the spring. Buy a new wastegate actuator.

What id the purpose of threaded rod on WG?
ANd if cant adjust boost level without changing WG spring, then what is the purpose of boost controller?

the boost controller will allow you to change how much MORE boost you can make BEFORE the w/g opens...you're essentially fooling the W/G so it doesnt open too early. you cant make the spring open with less pressure than what the spring is rated for. threaded rod allows you to compensate a little bit in terms of timing, i see people adjust it to try and eliminate boost creep. etc. the only way to boost less is to get a lower ranging spring.

^^
This is my story.
My turbo has internal WG. After install my boost gauge was shoing over 12psi, aftrer reading boards I've turned rod few threads out, boost gause started showing no more than 6-7psi...
After I've done this, it alway was run at this level untill I've upgrated clutch. I gave the WG rod few turns again and now it boosts to 9-10psi asper boost gauge.
Wasnt I adjusting boost?
What was I doing then?

The spring inside the wastegate sets the boost level. If you have a 5 psi spring, you will make 5 psi with the actuator rod adjusted to its loosest point.
But, you can make more boost by pre-loading the spring. So if you shorten the rod by screwing it in, you will make more boost.

Ok I see now how it works.....
...You cant have less psi then the spring setting, you can only increse the psi...
Now I undersatnad why when my WG rod at its lowest setting I was produsing no less than 5psi (seems like this is the spring type that my t25 has)
I got it now.
Thanks for taking your time to expalin me this, Turboguru.
