hey everyone. ive been haveing this noise when ive been going over sudden bumps and its allmost like the front suspension is loose or something i think the problem is bad upper mounts but im not really postive b/c its coming from the upper side of the shock area.

btw im ridein on B&G with the 01 upper mounts.

Only going on what you've said.... Did you Index the two upper mount plates? Also why did you use an 01 mount on your 03?

well i got the B&Gs from one of the members on the fourm so the 01 upper mounts were already on so i have no idea if they were index or not. if you read on the B&G info if you have an 03 you need to 01 upper mount so it will not make noise as you turn and stuff.

back to the poping noise is like hit a sudden bump on thr road it fells like its hiting were the upper mount bolts to the fender allso it got worse after i took a trip to LA and back happens more offen now....

Alot of people don't know about indexing the strut mounts. It's not too big of a deal. Here's the low down.
Our car's have a two peace mount. The upper plate not only mounts the strut to the body, but also retains the strut and spring combo together. This pice is stationary (ie:not moving). The lower peace acts as a buffer, and sort of bearing. While the lower unit sustains the spring in place with the strut, the strut still needs to turn. So between the two plates is a matching contour acting like a bearing. If you noticed when you had the mount out of the car, it looks like a triangle. Look close enough, and you'll see it is marked. There are a couple of marks on the top one. One designating the side of the vehicle. The other is a dual purpose, it looks like, > . It indicates whtch direction is out, and also signifys an INDEXING point. If you then look at the lower section of the mount carefully, you'll notice a simmaler mark, > . This is another reason you should use a spring compressor. When you are re assembling the strus assembaly, and decompressing the spring, you'd need make sure the two indexing marks are alligned.

Maby someone out there could explain why the need to be indexed, because I unfortunitly don't know. But I do however know from experiance that if the strut mount isn't indexed, it WILL lead to a "popping" noise. Mostly on turns with a bump to them.

i have the same popping noise too on my B&G coilovers. but i have an '02 and am using the '02 upper mounts. i'm hoping that the popping goes away for me once i get the '01 upper mounts installed.

as for your problem, check if your strut bolts under the hood are tight enough.

For sure the problem is in indexing, or in having not indexed front struts.

no indexing is required for coilover.. that's what i thought and told

i have the same noise with tein basic.. i'm going to try to get a new 01 upper mount and see if it fixes anything... otherwise i would be damn happy with the performance of the suspension right now

Confirm witch statement? The not indexing coilovers?

As far as I know, whenever you use the factory strut mount for our cars... You STILL need to index it. Whenever there is a two plate design, it needs to be indexed.

From All data:
Install all the parts except the self-locking nut onto the damper unit by referring to the Exploded View. Align the bottom of the spring (A) and the stepped part of the lower spring seat (B) as illustrated. The hole in the upper spring seat and the arrow on the damper mounting base must point toward the knuckle mounting area.



Note the markings on the strut mount and their orientation.

Can this issue still be indexing...

If I had my springs and struts installed fine, no noise for a year... and now I have these exact symptoms?

Funny thing is... when i drive in the rain the sound goes away.. like its lubed up...

Any ideas ?

i had the same loud banging problems too.....i replaced the lower control arm bushings......the front ones were broke and the back were ok but i replaced anyway...

i previously had this problem when putting my 03 back to stock, it came down to the spring not being seated and turning right. when you look at the spring and have someone turn the wheel the spring would turn and then kick back to where it sits causing a popping/clanking noise.

just a thought to what it might be...
