installing a sway bar on an 01
o.k. so i found the diy on how to do it but it looks like i will need to drill through the lower center beam and through the lower control arms. It only says lower center beam but not lower control arm. is it both?

I am a bit confused as to what you are looking at. IS your car an ex?? IF so you should not have to drill any thing. If you need help let me know I am in sac too!

No way, the holes are higher up. They don;t go through the LCA. Don't trust an MS paint drawing, the install kit should have a drilling template.

Well you need the mounting kit. You cant just bolt the sway bar on without the mounting hardware. The subframe is thin sheet metal.

Last step of the DIY
Slap on the 2 bushing holders and bolt the top 2 ends first using the 3 and a 1/2 inch 8 mm bolt with the 8mm nutz (getting the driver side will be tricky. Because u drilled under the fuel tank bracket, you'll need nimble rat claws to get the nutz on)
Bolt up the bottom 2 with the 8mm nutz.
so in plain english, drill the face of the subframe, stick a nut behind it, thread a bolt through the hole, into the nut, and tighten
This sounds overly ghetto to me, I don't know who wrote the DIY, but I'd out a fender washer back there. Just a nut is asking for a tearout.
Something appears to be in error in the DIY, I cannot see how you can use 3.5" bolts there, the LCA is solid.
Then again, I wouldn't trust a DIY written with 'z's instead of esses.
When stock the bolts are less than an inch long. what the justification for 3.5" bolts is, is honestly beyond me, and quite honestly, I'd steer clear of the DIY unless someone can attest to it working right.
DO NOT drill through the LCA, you'll lock it in place.

You can use the progress kit with any sway bar. Just buy the progress mounting kit. If you search back a ways, 'Grey' did a write up on the mounting kit.

The progress mounting kit is the same way. YOu drill a small hole in front of the control arm and stick a small bolt in there. Just how it is.

IT DOESN'T COME WITH THE MOUNTING KIT.
Tie bar, rear brace, subframe support, call it what they like, they're one and the same. You don't need it to install a sway bar, there's a reason its not in the kit. Their instructions imply you're using it to install THEIR sway bar. You can use the kit to install any sway bar. If you can't figure it out, please don't go drilling holes in the car.

The diy on this forum for the rear progress sway is really good and detailed check it out. Its basically the same you need nut certs which my old man has and I can get(plus the tool which is pricey). To secure the mouts for the actual sway bar. Now for mounting the end links I would go with greys kit on that but I am sure that progress makes one.
Here I found it for you check it out!!

yes it does. it just doesnt come with a rear brace aka Tie bar or subframe support. the problem with their directions is that the "rear brace" is the template for drilling for the bushing brackets. So if you buy their 01 civic sway bar adap kit and a rsx bar you kinda get to wing the drilling. But it will only be off by maybe 1/8 of an inch.

Definition: A component that's often used in a suspension system to control body roll. A sway bar may be used on the front and/or rear suspension to help keep the body flat as the vehicle rounds a corner. This greatly improves a vehicle's cornering agility. Replacing the sway bar with one of a larger diameter can increase it even more.
