ex to dx engine swap
ex to dx engine swap
hi i have a 2002 ex and my block is dead so my friend has a very low mileage dx engine with only 9000 miles on it selling real cheap, so i wanna use the block with my old vtec head so i just wanna know what i need to do to dx block to make it like a ex, is there anything i need to take off my old ex block and put on dx block ? do i have to remove or install some oil squirter or something? also i might just keep dx engine in there for a while before i swap the head because i just need to get the car driving now, any questions comments concers would be appreciated

thanks for responses i think im gonna put dx engine in first just to get car driving and then swap the head later, or do you guys think i should remove dx head now and put ex head on before i put engine in car?
yeh true but im definately gonna do it but i cant spend couple days on it so might put dx engine first and then swap head, i cant have a ex car with a dx engine, im gonna use thinner head gasket and shave the head aswell

I would agree with you. 4000K is usually limp mode. When the conditions aren't right for vtec to engage the computer won't let the engine go beyond 4K RPMS
the full dx engine will not rev past 4000 because it doenst see the vtec cause your still running the ex ecu.. if you use the dx/lx ecu then you gonna need to tow your car down to the dealer to reflash your key... my suggestion is to swap the ex head back on and connect the vtec connections back uip.. that should fix your rev problem
yeh your right but i dont have any time now or can i afford downtime to install head and im gonna shave head maybe pnp and wanna put a cam and valvetrain in when i put head back on so i just wanna run dx temporarily, so i cant drive to dealer then change ecu there and let them teflash key? how much do they charge and will they do it since the car is a ex and engine and ecu ar dx ?
