exhaust mani/turbo smoking
hey so i just installed my sf kit on my 04 and it looks to me like the exhaust manifold or the turbo is smoking, it could be the exhaust pipe since im running off the downpipe and its still kinda in the engine bay, but if its the turbo or manifold anyone else have that problem?...
by the way the smoke isnt black, its kinda gray
also im running stock fuel system but i havent gone into boost, it happens at idle.

alright thanx alot, i was pretty concerned...well i suppose it can still be a problem but alot of people told me its probly from the coating or maybe some oil from my hands and rags when i was handling it. i just hope its from the manifold and not the turbo, would a messed up turbo smoke tho?

You may want to double check where "smoke" is comming from.
I could be from manifols just because its new, but i could be from in between manifold and engine block.
Usualy happens if mani gasket was reused and not changed to brand new.
Does the engine makes kind of louder and kind of "pff-pff-pff" exhaust noise if you listen to an engine in the manifold area??

if the smoke is just rising off the manifold, then dont worry about it. It will go away after a few hours. If its coming out of the exhaust pipe, then you could have a problem.

ya well i just learened how hard it really is to make boost, even when im in second and have the throttle oppened half way at 4000rpm im not even boosting...i dont think i'll be blowing my motor, i can order an emanage today and get it installed/street tuned pretty soon......or install my sf fmu..hmmm??
If you had oil on your hands the oil is now just burning off the manifold but make sure it goes away and be sure thats what it is or it could be something else a bigger problem

mine was smokeing pretty bad the first time i started it up too. so i shut it down and got my neighbor who is also a master mechanic. it was just the grease and oil burning off from me handeling it. if it starts up and runs fine then its probably that.

lemme bring this back from the dead.
im getting a SF kit from jeff, and was wondering about the manifold gasket, can u use a honda exhaust manifold gasket? or would it have to be custom, seeing that SF bit the dust.

there is only one exhaust mani gasket. what you need to do is get a new one and get copper gasket sealer spray. and put a couple of good coats on the gasket and both matting surfaces

thanks for the info, i thought the turbo manifold would use a diffrent gasket.
