Peeps who have redid their door panels...

ok so I've done searches, and either the DIY dont have pics or they skip the whole part of actually laying down the material...Im speaking for the coupe...

I've yanked out the door panel, bought the material...what has everybody used for the adhesive? what do you recommend, and what did you do to keep the fabric tucked. People who have done this mod, know what I mean...

any pics of the actualy process of upholstery...

and what materials have you guys used....

i just used the 3m spray, it's in a green can forgot the exact name but it's the highest quality, tucking the fabric? i used the back side of a butter knife and just shove it in the groves, did u remove the armrest?

dont even get me started on how to do this

coupes you have to remove the door panels and remove the rivets that hold panel together in order to be able to remove the old fabric. remove the fabric, use that as a template for the new material, sand the old glue out, then glue down the new fabric.

sedans i think it just comes out, lol.

yup, have to drill rivets on coupe, drill them out before you cut them then buy some plastic screws to screw them back on

Exactly like the other guys said...

1. Take the door pannel off
2. Disassemble it
3. Rip the old fabric off
4. Sand down the glue
5. Wash the door pannel clean
6. Get some strong spray adhesive (high temp resistant)
7. Reapply new fabric
8. Reassemble the door

It's pretty easy... just time consuming.

i got some imitation suede. I strongly recommend using 3M SUPER 90 adhesive spray in the green can. The best there is.

interesting. are you using the adhesive correctly? You don't want too much or too little. It will bond in about 15 secs but its good to hold it in place for a minute just to be sure. and you can't pull it off once you make the bond. Its very humid here and mine is still pretty good. There is one spot that has a few bubbles (not noticable really) but I missed those when I was spraying looks like.

i set the spray on medium and sprayed it good, my car sits out the parking lot in the hottest part of the day, the fabric is very thin i think it's just that, i'm getting rid of the red soon and i'm going to convert to somethnig silver, maybe viynl, suede, or something, but something thicker

where do you get imitation suede? and has anyone done the suede look on the A B and C pillars for the mercedes look? I tried it once but I couldn't figure out how to wrap the C pill on the sedan. BTW it kills almost all the rattles.

A friend of mine put it together for me, he worked for a lexus dealer doing interiors. I just bought the material and hit him off with $400 for doing the job. Ands real suede not that fake stuff. No stains, easily cleans and color has not changed.
