Ever heard of the Civic GX NGV???

I was looking at the honda site and came across this. I have never heard of it before. Does it just run on natural gas or what? Looks like you have to buy a refueling unit for your home as well, but I am not sure. What do you guys think?

lol i just read this:

"Although refueling the GX with Phill can take up to 12 hours, this process might actually be more convenient than going to a gas station if you fill up each night when you come home."

12 hours to fill up? wtf??

yes the natural gas civic is cheaper to run but refueling is 1 problem...although u can fill up at home its hard to travel long distances with it...but if u commute than its pretty good

Yeah, there is no way you could make a road trip unless you mapped out natural gas places to fill up at... and still, you wouldn't have the time for that.

they have been around for a few years. They don't sell many of them because not many people want them. Although they have some inconviences, NG burns cleaner than regular gas. Some of the busses in Montgomery County, MD run on NG and some devlivery trucks (UPS/Fedex) run on it too.

at least you can use the carpool lane if you own this civic "Alternative fuel vehicles are allowed to use HOV (carpool) lanes in California if they display an HOV decal on their vehicle. Civic GX drivers can obtain their decal here"

They didnt sell any natural gas vehicles before because they were never offered to the public, but the civic gx is changing that. But one thing bad about the car is the accerleration which is slower than a prius i believe.

I've seen a couple of those around the bay. I think all of the Fremont school district school buses are also NGV's.

i saw a while back that they were mostly sold to corporations, as company cars used for business (going to meet people, and such)

It's been out since the 7th gen came out. Another non-GM natural gas vehicle was the previos generation Toyota Camry. As with all alternative fuels, it's mainly government and corporate fleets that get them. It's about being clean, although a SULEV/PZEV can be even cleaner than NG, without dealing with the drawbacks, namely refueling and for CNG, the high pressure fuel system that can develop problems over time. 3000+ psi can do quite a number ...

-- Kane ... LNG is lower pressure, but freezing cold at -200 degrees or so.

It doesnt really matter, natural gas is still another non renewable resource just as petroleum, so dont expect it to be one of the major replacements for automotive fuel

2001 Civic GX Natural Gas Vehicle

I have had my 2001 Civic GX for a month now.

Thanks and props to all the regulars here.
I have been doing my research and printing things out from the forum.
You guys have a killer site.
You've already helped me take off the front bumper and change out an OEM headlight and remove the rear bumper to install my Carbon Euro Altezza Taillights.
I just got my OEM spoiler/wing and I got to get it painted and installed.
Already found the project in the DIY complete with photos.

I am here in So. Cal. my other car is a full sized Ford Van E150. I just couldn't pay $600.00 a month in gasoline bills, so I stumbled onto the Civic GX.
I just love it!
I am paying $2.49 a gallon for natural gas at the pumps.
Tomorrow the installer comes and starts the installation of my PHILL.
(home natural gas vehicle refueling appliance).
After PHILL is installed I should get a 200 mile range off a fill up at home for about $1.60 a gallon.

FYI: The 2001 civic is the cleanest internal combustions engine ever tested.
Cleaner than any of the Hybrids.
10,000 miles between oil changes.
Refuel @ home for about half what gasoline costs
RIDE IN THE CARPOOL LANE by MYSELF!
Plus do all the MODS I am finding here in the forum for a 2001 4dr. civic
Thanks Again!
Happy to answer any questions about my experiences with the GX

Do they make an aftermarket turbo kit for the GX? That would be awsome!

The GX is not a news. It is very environmental friendly.

Nowdays, there is even OXYGEN powered car in reasearch and dev mode

i know whoever has those cars now wish they didn't have them. the price of natural gas is at record high right now. where i work at, we use natural gas to heat our dryer and oil but we had to switch it over to propane cause it cost too much.

natural gas vehicle fuel prices

Even now with record high natural gas and gasoline prices. I am still paying less for natural gas $2.49 a GGE. Regular Gasoline here in So. Cal is about $2.80-$3.00 a gallon.
When I refuel at home I am expecting to pay less than $1.75 even with natural gas prices rising this winter.

Even IF I was paying more than the cost of gasoline...
Riding in the carpool lane solo is SO WORTH IT here in So. Cal.
Plus driving the cleanest internal combustion engine ever made.

yeah, they can make cars run of anything, oxygen, hydrogen, the only problem is that they like to explode during crahses making it unsafe for the passangers

Up until the beginning of september I worked at Fuelmaker Corp...The company that makes the Phill, which is also co-owned by Honda of America...

Good luck with your Phill! I was working at the company from basically the conception of the the machine to the production stages, working in the engineering department...when it works the machine is great....HOWEVER!!!! these things are really a toss up...there was A LOT of annoying problems with them...They are working on a cheaper, fixed output pressure...right now your new unit has variable output pressure....the European model runs at 3000 psi MAX...

if you have any questions, even though Im not with the company anymore, feel free to get at me...**** I know this machine front to back, damn, even some of the compenents are thanks to me

Just hope u dont get a problematic unit!!!

again u have questions ask me, you might be better off! Remember I have no reason to bullshit you...hahhahahahaha
