Why are some people so dumb?
Basically, I'm looking for a new car and after a ton of thinking and deciding what I really want I decided to get an IS300.
Anyway, I'm looking through the newspaper and I come across a 2002 IS300 with 16k miles, 5 speed and the asking price is $26k.... wtf I ask myself. The seller gave his email address in there so I decided to email him and ask if it was a typo or something.
I ask if the car is still for sale, tell him that book value for a PRIVATE SELLER is under $21k for that car and tell him that I will buy the car from him for book value.
He emails me back saying that the book value of his car is $24,500 and he cannot accept my offer....
Thinking I'm crazy I check the book value again and I get the same thing..... so then I get a feeling that this bumb nuts must of looked at DEALER RETAIL to come up with his value.
So I check the dealer retail and boom, there is the value he gave me.
I E-mailed him back explaining that he gave me a dealer retail value and not the private retail value and I'm waiting for a reply...
basically it comes down to 2 things: Either this guy s a fvckin retard or he thinks that I'm stupid. Hopefully he is a retard who comes to his senses before he goes to a dealer to trade his car in and get 17k for it.
Stuff liek this just pisses me off.

Small update, just got an email back from them:
"Hi,
I am not a dealer, my husband and I are selling the car privately...we are flexible with the price but we are not willing to sell her for only $21k, the lowest we will go is $24k and you should probably recheck the kellybluebook value because we did not get the same prize quote you did.
You may want to consider just getting the new IS300 if you can afford one. they are great cars but since they are all rear-wheel drive, they are pretty much useless in the snow.
If you want, you can call my husband tomorrow at work to discuss further, he is negotiating all the pricing. His name is Mick and his work # is 267.*******"

They are just trying to rip some one off. If you really NEED to have that car then I can see why you are willing to argue with them. Do you really need to have it?
If they are really so rare then maybe they have a right to charge more. IMO that is not the case.
You know what will suck, as soon as you buy your car there will be a tons of the one you where looking for for a better price.

No offence, I don't understand why your upset. He's the one selling the car, so he can suggest any price he wants. If the seller can sell it for what he is currently selling it for, than that's great for him.
Your like saying this guy should sell it for the price you want it for. It may be book value, but bottom line is, he is the seller, and you're not.
Plus if you are correct, than his car most likely won't sell. Why don't you just look for another IS 300??
Anyways, the IS 300 is a nice car, and I've had thoughts about getting one too. GL with your search for a new car.

The car is kind of rare but not rare enough where it goes up in value.... there are tons of them for sale but stick shift is kinda tough to find (even though I found about 5 stick shifts at dealerships). This is the first private seller I found that are selling a stick so I figured I give it my best shot in trying to buy it since I can get it a 1000 or 2 cheaper then the dealer.
What I am upset about is that these poeple actaully think they can sell the car for that much but they cant, even the stupidest buyer will not buy that car for that much... I'm upset because I know that when I go out and buy this car from a dealer those retards will come to their sesnes and email me back saying that they are willing to negotiate the price. I just dont want to miss out on getting a car for a little cheaper then it is at the dealer.

Look, you just need to be patient. By you emailing the owners of the IS, it makes you seem like you are desperate in need of a IS300, and only an IS300. Tell them to keep it, find your self a better deal and if they can't sell, like you say, they will email you back with a lower price.

You can get a Certified Pre Owned IS300 from a Lexus dealership for that much that was fully inspected and has a 2 year/100k bumper to bumper warrenty.....
I guess it wasnt meant to be with this IS300 so i'll keep searching, just the sheer ignorance of people astonishes me.

If you were looking to buy like a 2002 civic from someone and they were asking $20k for it would that not make the seller a dumbass regardless of what he can and cant do?
Thats all I'm trying to say here.

But you're right.... he is the seller and not me so thats the bottom line.

The sent their final email and it turned out to be what I initially thought.... they are not serious about selling the car.
basically, they put it up for sale and see if anyone would pay that rediculous price but if not they were going to keep it. Just ended up wasting my time.

that would be interesting seeing as how the IS comes with a 6spd manual, not a 5 speed.
