Civic Warranty
What kind of mods can i get away with without voiding my warranty? Will they freak out because i have air intake and a muffler? I dont want to void it and end up blowing my motor or something.

oh lordy. this topic has been discussed many many many times but here goes....
no mod voids warranty unless it is directly linked to fawking up your car some way, somehow. if anyone would like to add to this definition, please do so

The honda dealer told me:
<< Bolt on mods are fine as long AS.......they don't contribute to any problems that you might have in the future. >>
In other words, if I put a CAI on the car, and something breaks in the future which requires warranty work, unless it can be PROVEN that the part caused the problem, they still have to fix it. It is almost impossible to prove something like that unless it is absolutely blatant. If you want to cover your ***...have the honda dealer install all the mods for you.

P.S. There is this cool search function that can help you find lots of answers, to lots of questions.

i was told by one dealer i went to that they didnt do any mods. others say that the only way not to void the warranty is to let them install the mods for their exhorbitant labor rates, however they are lying to you. american honda's policy is that the only way a mod will void your warranty is if it can be proven that it was the cause of the problem (i.e. if you got hydrolock by driving in a pond with your CAI)
if you want to be safe, dont take the car back modded, remove the mods before you go

I told my grandma (who owns a CR-V, btw) about the mods I want to do when I get my Civic...and she told my mom to make me ask the dealer if they would void the warranty. You should have seen the look on my mom's face when the dealer told me that mods were totally okay, and he and I started talking about all kinds of mods, engine swaps, Type-R Civics and Integras, etc. It was the funniest thing...and when she told my grandma, she said we should talk to someone from the big H. She said the dealer was full of it. Lol.

you got lucky, some dealers will tell you anything will void the warranty, even though it really wont according to american hondas policy (and thats all that really matters, they are giving you the warranty, not the dealer)
I spent 1425 points to do this.

neonlights- considering you dont have your civic yet- the dealer is your best friend for now Just wait till you actually buy your civic, then we'll see what they have to say about mods- or when you come in for engine work with mods, it wont be pretty.

heheh im archiving that one!
a dealer won't touch a mod if it could default a warrenty. because this could void the warrenty and they would be liable. the exception is if its in their part department. or if you don't have a warrenty.
