Beat my first V8 last night
I raced a friend of friends 1980 Camero with a 1994 350 crate motor and a laundry list of mods. I felt kinda bad after I won cause the kid was like 19-20 and did all the work himself. He was pretty bummed afterwards. Anyway from what I remember he had it bored to a 355, cams, some other stuff I cant remember, header, exhaust, 3000 rpm stall convert, some kinda shifter? some kinda transmission? and probally more **** I can't remember
.
So we went from a dig first. Got him off the line pretty good. To his defense he had some pretty shitty tires. Flipped the switch and I pulled pretty good on him. Azenis own the street!
Have not spun on a launch yet.
Went from a 20mph roll in 1st. Even through first, flipped the switch in second and started to pull at the top of second, third gear pulled more. We went from a dig again. I had a killer launch. Tires gripped so bad I had tourque steer that almost pulled me into his lane. He was spinning pretty bad and I had like a 3 car lead off the line, shift into second decide not to hit the switch. Wise desicion cause he glet off and gave up. So yeah it felt good to beat a V8 although it was a small one in a 4200lb car. Like I said I felt bad for the kid. He's young and with way more knowledge about cars so I'm sure he'll have a bad *** car built someday that will blow me away.

Sorry to dissapoint everyone
Everyone I call out that I may have a chance at beating is either too *****, scared to lose to a weak little civic or they say their car is broke or not running right.
Well he sure didnt buy an LT1 Crate motor.... my stock cube/stock heads 350 LT1 with cam, headers, and stall went 12.40's in a 1997 Z28 (without a tune mind you)... which is very similiar in weight to a 1980 Camaro.
Tell him to have it professionally tuned.

Unless that guy has a new cam or new heads, that 94 crate motor isn't that great. Do you know what gears he has?
Good kill BTW, I told you to watch out for that torque steer in first
. It will take you into another lane if your not careful.

it's probably the GM Goodwrench 350 crate motor. Those have like 250HP now, so back in 94 they were probably pathetic. It's probably carbed too, so the throttle response may be all F'ed up if he's an amateur. If he had some good tires and a good 350 he'd win.

My other friend said the 3000rpm stall converter with the gears he has is not a good combination? I think he has some new gears and a traction lock(think thats what he said, makes both wheels spin I believe) so maybe we'll rematch when he gets everything on and some new tires. He is also gonna come out to our club sponsered dyno day in a few weeks so then I'll see how much power he is making.

This was just a friendly race that I thought I'd share with you. I don't even know why I posted it cause like I said I feel kinda bad cause he is a good kid. Most of the time you get the *******s that you just can't wait to beat their ***, but this was not the case at all.

First off, a 1980 camaro is not 4200 lbs. Its approximately 3600 lbs. My dad has a 1980 z28 with heads, cam, exhaust, headers, and shift kit. The car isn't as torquey down low as my car its on top end where it pulls. If it was a crate engine, i'm not familiar with any that had 250 hp. the zz4 which is gm's current 350 offering, has 350 hp, 410 lb feet of torque i believe. So good kill, but the car might need some tuning.

damn...were his tires completely bald?!?!
sure the car is an 80's model, but the motor is built! with that motor he shoulda been pushing 350-400hp! not doubting ur story any, just think he was a little scared of what he had...
