Still Cant decide XM or Sirius(I know its been beaten to death)
Ok, So im going insane, I cant decide whether to get xm or sirius. I have a Alpine IVA-D300 unit and it says XM Ready, But I hear that Sirius has better stations. I will be listening to it for mainly in these orders: Rock, Rap, Sports, News, etc.
Help me make up my mind please

I am going to get sirius today. Stern will be on it and they recently expanded there channles. As of now they have over 120. My parents have it at there home and they love it. I have not found any body running xm around here but i would like to know what the real diff is.
News....Same for Sirius & XM
Sports....Sirius way ahead, in 07 they'll get Nascar, and soon their after they'll get MLB (most likely)
Rap....i dunno what XM has, but Sirius has Shade 45 (Eminem's station)
Rock...probably the same Sirius & XM
Stern pretty much equals at with Opie & Anthony
I like Maxim's station on Sirius, those guys are pretty funny on there...I'd say sirius, but I'm ignorant to XM, my cuz just got Sirius, loves it, listens to the NFL network 24 hours

the true difference
sirius will cut out if you go under cover like thick trees and and overpasses at slow speed. xm doesnt as much but xm has dead patches because it isnt true sat radio but in citys it doesnt cut out as easily under cover.
i have sirius and wouldnt go back to xm

Sirius I hear is better for rock stations,I listen to Hard attack-Cradle of Filth,Lamb of God,Slayer.Pretty much Black,Death,Melodic Death and the like. They also have hair nation,80"s power metal and such.As for news they have about 4-5 news stations and the same for sports and Rap which I don't listen to.Go to the Sirius home website and check out the channel listings.
sirius!!! i have it and its great. They have recently added more repeaters (things that repeat signal and let you drive under bridges/tall building and still receive signal w/o cutting out) rock stations/alternative r 28 Faction which is alternative/rock/and rap. 21 Alt Nation (Chili Peppers). 20 Buzzsaw (Disturbed, Ozzy...) 19 ? uh forgot what its called but its rock. 45 = Shade 45 (rap) 50 Hot Jams = 50 cent, R Kelly, Luda. 40 and 42 r also rap I think that 42 is the Wax. Get the Apline direct wire kit ($80?) that's what I have. The sports should b about the same. Also another thing is that Sirius has way better DJ's which may not seem important but if you've ever heard XM's DJ's u would understand. Especially on Alt Nation (they r funny as hell) DJ Green Lantern (Eminems DJ) spins it on shade 45 and he sure as hell knows how to mix it. at like 6pm they have the All Out Show on 45 which can be pretty funny at times(it's mad naggerish) **** how could i forget about the NFL? that's a stong selling point

I have Sirius and absolutely love it. Fave stations are Alt Nation (alternative), Faction (punk/hip-hop/hard rock), Backspin (old skool hip-hop, '79-'94), Boombox (breakbeats/old skool), Maxim Radio, Wax (mixes/remixes/freestyles), and several others...I have never really heard XM, but I can honestly say that Sirius is the ****! If you really wanna listen, you can get a 3-day free trial to listen online. Only downfall is that you can only listen to the music channels online (and a couple talk replay's). Sirius is gettin' a lot of big names. On Faction (28) alone, it has shows by Kelly Slater, Tony Hawk, Jason Ellis, Bam Margera, Lance Armstrong, and a couple others. Its the "action-sports-music" station...on Backspin, the regular DJ's are Kurtis Blow, Dana Dane, and Lady B...
As far as sports go, Sirius has NBA, NFL, and, as previously mentioned, Nascar in 2007. Talk radio is good, of course Howard Stern next year plus the comedy stations (esp. Raw Dog) are great.
You won't be dissappointed if you go with Sirius. I've maybe listened to about 6 tracks off CD's since getting it in the beginning of May.

yea, mabey I should go to both websites and listen to both, I dunno, They dont offically have it in canada right now, so im not sure which one will have better coverage, Im right along the boarder so i know i will get it.Also, on my unit it says xm ready, so does that mean it will be better compatibility than sirius?
hmmm....
hmmm....
i was just in the car for about 2 hours and they had about 4 calls from Canada on Maxim, so somebody in Canada is getting Sirius. Look into it...good luck, as you can see Sirius is getting a good response...I love it, and have had it for about 8 months....NEVER LISTENED TO A CD IN MY CAR SINCE.

xm. they have opie and anthony (way better than howard stern will ever be), their "axis of rock" has so much to choose from, with a few stations that go really deep into music of that genre/era. also, xm is a much better company, as far as business practices and smart business decisions go. i've made a ton of money with the investment i made in xm's stock. i havent had sirius, so i dont really know about the programming variety and stuff.
and i would suggest to anyone that is going to buy a standalone satrad receiver to go with xm, their hardware is all developed in house, not outsourced like what sirius does. but since you are gonna run it thru your deck, that doesn't apply to you.

Are the connections on the back of XM-ready and sirius-ready head units interchangeable? Just wondering because I recently bought a panasonic head unit, and XM-ready is all it says on the face. Its not that big a deal , but I was considering getting sirius.

XM has the backing of Delphi, which makes most of the electronics, key fobs for GM, thus is why GM has only XM. Thus this is probably why Sirius is "outsourced." Secondly, XM has the backing of Clear Channel. Yes I said it, Clear Channel. CC has a huge stake in regular AM/FM radio, now they have a stake in satellite radio. Nice huh? Good job in you making money in your XM stake, but satellite radio is such a new technology, just like when RCA and 18" inch satellite dishes came out.
Onto my provider opinion. I hopefully soon will be getting Sirius. I am not in a hurry to get it because at the house we have Dish Network, and Sirius' music feeds are simulicast on Dish. Its great. I personally havent had a chance to listen to the rock feeds, but there are a lot of rap feeds, many different styles. I listen to more of the techno/dance feeds, and love em. I hear many up and coming small town DJ's, its nice. Sirius has Stern, XM has Opie and Andy, whoever those tools are. Secondly, BBC's Radio 1 will soon be added to Sirius' line up, and will be on time shift scheduling. So their morning show in the BBC, will be played in the morning here. Nice Huh? I personally thing Sirius is a better choice, but I know people who have XM, and dont regret that choice either, because its all about the content, and no commericals, and both have great content.

O&A PARTY ROCK!! Screw Hoo Hoo Howie and his $500 million, 3 channel deal. Sirius sucks...these are the dipsticks that paid Martha Stewart $& million a year for home decorating tips over the radio, something that of course translates well in a non-visual environment. F Sirius, F Mel Karmazin, and F that Big Goofy Old Lady Howard. Hoo hoo, tell 'em Fred.
XM has a higer bit rate than Sirius. So, if you want an MP3 sounding experience, Sirius is your choice. If you want a deeper sound with a higher bit rate, XM is the choice. I think it's a fairly simple choice. Good luck on your decision.
Sirius.....
I had XM and Sirius and I think Sirius is by far a better broadcast. I heard O&A and I think they are just copies of Stern. Sirius channels I think are better and they are saying more channels are being released. I absolutely love it. I am waiting for Sirius to come out with a nice portable receiver like a walkman.

I did listen to both first. From what I understand XM uses multilple repeaters while Sirius actually has 2 active satellites (VS XM's one). I'm sick of all of these tools arguing over Opie and butthead. We're arguing over an entire service. I feel the same way about people buying it JUST for Howard. As far as service goes I WAITED for the ai-net adapter to come out for Sirius. Glad I waited...

Clarion's Ce-net cable. Sirius + iPod adaptor = the super uber win.

Apparently our government is working to get Satellite radio available in Canada. When it comes, my Pioneer deck is XM ready so I'll probably get XM. My main reason for getting it would be the Sports broadcasts. I'd want it in time for the next NHL Season, and the NFL as well.
I've heard better things about XM, but I've also heard rumours that Sirius is going to go bankrupt sometime....which I don't believe.

Well, I just got XM here in Toronto canada and cant say im disappointed. I chose XM mainly because I got a couple good deals on equipment on ebay and it all intergrates beautifully into my pioneer deck.
Im pretty happy, theres always a good song on and there is some great comedy too.
Opie and Anothey I find are funnier then stern, Stern was funny about 6 years ago before he lost his edge (and was censored to death) I find stern to be too much of a pervert, Opie and Anthoney are pervs too but arnt preoccupied with inviting woman into the studio to take off their tops for plugs (come on its radio!)
as far as having XM or Sirius, just make a choice and forget about it. Theres so many channels your going to find about 8-10 that you acually listen to and alternating between those your sure to find a beat to listen to.
