ok i'm really wondering this. i do not have an intake. but i want to know if these brand name intakes are any better than the crap they sell on ebay. the way i see is that they are all aluminum pipes with a cotton filter. i need others thoughts on this. i guess the real q is are they the same thing? is an aem cia the same as the generic lets say BOMZ cia. btw its a random name i saw on ebay.

K&N does alot of research for their products and have dyno charts to back it up. Aem is nothing but marketing. I've had aem and K&N and imo the aem was terrible in comparison.
Here are some things the cheapo intakes DON'T have:
mandrel bent piping for smooth airflow
tube design that's actually flow tested
proper fitment and seals

dont forget: warranty, customer service, and gaurantee satisfaction (exclude performance wise).
if you dont give a rats *** about your car, go for the cheapo, but im sure most of us here take good care of our cars and buy quality parts.

i gotta give aem v2 props cause on the rsx-s it made 18whp on the dyno. no other intake could come close, maybe upto 10whp. But thats only one car.

hmm...i dunno. that seems a lot of power gain for an intake to give out. ive seen that dyno chart too but i still dont believe it gives you that much more power.
^its possible. those k20 motors can see alot of power from just the basic intake/header/exhaust mod. but 18whp is a lot from an short ram intake, i would say more like 10-12whp. maybe 18 on a cold day with engine hood up and fan blowing

injen cai lets see, the pipe rubs the car in two places, will eventually cause a hole to form in the piping! cold air in general is a bad idea. When it rains, water gets sucked in, and bye bye engine.

lol, someone called me a ricer. It takes more than just an intake to be a ricer. That is the only aftermarket part on my car if you don't count the audio equipment I installed. At least I don't have an aftermarket exaust with a tip the size of Massachusetts or something like that.
intake --> no good in lower rpm.........bad low end....good high end...
i wonder whether it's a good idea to buy em if i always shift <= 3000RPM....hmhm
i might end up reving my car all the time just because of the intake...
