For those of you that travel on I-5...
Hey guys,
The CHP and local police are combining to hit I-5 *HARD* today. It was in the news and papers and radio and all that, but just in case, I thought I'd let you know.
ANYONE going over 70 *WILL* be ticketed, so keep it around 65. Even 1 mph will get a ticket (or so they claim)... FYI.
I know most of you have heard this already, but if it saves one 7thgen'er from getting a ticket, then it's worth it

Maybe it is just a scare, but it really is a threat that cops say they are going to be hard on. Today is like an "all out day" or something, where they don't take any crap or speeding. They want to teach people a lesson...
Either way, I don't want to risk it...

So maybe it was a false alarm. But still, if it saves us from one ticket........

The California Highway Patrol will crack down today with tickets for Interstate 5 speeders - in hopes of stemming speed-related crashes.
From 6 a.m. today until 6 a.m. Thursday, more CHP cruisers and air patrols than usual will patrol I-5 from Mexico to the Oregon border, said CHP spokesman Tom Marshall.
"There's an urban myth that at 5 to 10 mph over (the speed limit) you won't get a ticket - and that's just not true," Marshall said.
He added that in the future additional patrols will be launched without notice.

Just an FYI guys:
CHP says that it gave out over 2000 tickets on I-5, usual number they give out in a day is 400...
So looks like they hit it pretty hard. They also claim that next time they do a big crackdown they won't announce it to the media, so watch your rearviews....

So the places where they handed out the most tickets was where people sped the most, drove the most, and didn't listen to the news the most...

Other than that and the bumps, I would agree with you...
maybe for revenues?
either way, they found an good excuse to cite more tickets and it worked (for them).
I-5 is a popular highway. more drivers = more oppurtunities to give out tickets = revenues = officers job saved for the month.
next month... repeat

i can agree 100% on that. most speed limits posted are the maxium limits. when weather gets bad, that doesnt mean you can still drive 65mph/70mph because it says so on the sign. when theres heavy fog/rain/etc, conditions change and driving habits should as well (drive slower, look harder, etc)
all i can say is, drive safe and obey the speed limit. i would rather drive 65mph and wait longer getting to LA than recieve an $300-+ ticket. killing that extra hour isnt worth $300 to me IMO.
it sure is tempting though. when i was on a trip to washington on I-5, i felt it was reasonable to go above 70mph. clear skys, clear roads, no traffic, flat lands and just mountians miles ahead...
