Would a WRX win against an RX8?
In theory the WRX would have an excellent chance because of the AWD and torque. However, the RX-8 on the right launch would beat it. It would take a much higher RPM and more abusive clutch drop to do it.
Most cases I've seen, stock vs stock it's pretty even with the RX-8 edging it out in the end. The WRX getting the jump, but the RX-8 edging it out in upper RPM's. Don't forget 9K RPM and 238 hp. With the ECU upgrade from canzoomer putting the car back to original design spec (pre EPA tune), around 210 whp.
Anyways, it's very much a driver's race, with the general edge going to the subbie because it's much easier to launch. But are you asking in a drag race or what? On a road course/autocross, the WRX would see nothing but taillights.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i've heard that the RX8 doesn't have 240hp, but only 220hp. Mazda did a false advertisement and now they are giving the RX8 owners extended warranty or something. Anybody heard about that?
You are wrong.
The RX-8 was originally advertised at 248 hp. EPA had a fit with Mazda's cat life, so the ECU was last minute reflashed to make the AFR pig rich to cool down EGT and extend cat life. In doing so, power was lowered to 238 hp. Easily corrected back to original spec with a canzoomer tune.
I've posted it several times before, but there is also an issue with dyno on the RX-8 similar to the issues the M3 and certain porsches are experiencing. Because the car's rear wheels spin on a dyno and not the front, the wheel sensors on the car send the message to the ECU which pulls timing, because it senses abuse, and throws dyno numbers off. There are so many sensors on the damn car its basically self-aware. The car thinks someone is doing a burnout ona dyno and reduces power to avoid drivetrain damage. Mazda released an official statement regarding the issue, if you need it I can find it for you.
Anyways, this car really isn't a car for drag/street racing. If you need an explanation why, then you need to understand the rest of Mazda's lineup, especially the Miata. If you're into that sort of thing, go buy a neon...better yet a GTO.

I think this would be an interesting race because of the difficulty in launching both cars. Both cars need to be launched at extremely high RPMs (near redline) in order to get the best launch. A lot would depend on the distance of the race and how the race begins. The winner would depend on how the race was set up and the ability of the drivers. Given equal drivers the WRX should win fairly easily from a dig to about 100-120 mph or so. From a 5 or 10 mph roll would probably be a drivers race, almost dead even until high speeds when the RX8 would pull ahead. I would say that from a high speed roll the RX8 should win more easily.
I say WRX from a dig, and RX8 from a higher speed roll. It would be some very interesting straight line racing. If you want to race around the track though, the RX8 will hand the WRX its A$$.

nookie...very interesting info....thanks! If you think about it it make all the sense in the world. I know one thing is for sure...the STi doesn't have those safety sensors...lol......can you say drifty-do......
yep ^^^ and u have to watch out because the awd launch is insane. I wonder why i dont see evo's and sti's hittin 10's and 9's at the track but all of these front wheel drive cars. I guess its better to spend 30-35 grand on a 13 but with bad driver 14 sec awd monster, then learn something and build a 700 hatch and put 5-6k and run 12's??????? Sry for getting on anyones bad side but just like people at my school they think if a car is awd then the race is over. Btw at the track a modded evo hit a 15 flat and a modded sti hit low 14's. But of course awd launches r insane i forgot

The WRX has its advantages but it also has its disadvantages. Check how slow its accelerationm is from 5mph to 60mph. The worst youll see is from 30mph to 50mph. You got to ask yourself are you going to be slipping the clutch a lot to do 0-60 in 5 1/2 seconds in daily driving.
I dunno about this topic, everyone's got their own opinion on the matter, but I know one thing for sure...the RX-8 is alot more liveable in day to day traffic, and would hand a WRX its *** on a road course or auto-x. I had a WRX for about a week, when my friend went to China he left it with me, and I know I can easily put out faster numbers around a track with the RX-8 than I could with the WRX. Hands down.
