Shock Everytime I Touch Door When Exiting?
Shock Everytime I Touch Door When Exiting?
Its seriously annoyign and happens basically everytime, my brother pointed out to me last night since I got used to it.
Everytime I shut the car off and go to exit, when I touch the door to close it I get like a static shock almost. He told me that something most likely isnt grounded so I thought about it and it makes sense but what could it be? Any ideas?

whoa same thing happens to me. it happened alot more when i first got the car but now it happens 1/10...but i don't have a system...could it b us rubbing on the seats and then making static electricity?
Do you have custom seats? B/c if u have stock seats With that cloth material, when u rub ur *** on the seat to get out ur charged with static, and then u touch the metal car door.......u get shocked....I think?

Uh yeah, it's from the friction caused when you get out of the car and you rub against your cloth seats. The stock seats create a lot of static. Nothing to do with anything not being grounded.
I thought it might have to do with my AM reception sucking *** too but I guess not, I will still check the stereo ground. So its the cloth, strange, wonder if I spray de-static stuff in the car it will help.
The shock things usualy only happen to old people and heavy set people. Since they are the most likely to use the car to support them as they get out.
I saw an episode of mythbusters where they were talking about gas station explosions caused by people getting out of the car and getting a shock. (They debunked the explosion bit but did explain the shock).

Yeah, this **** used to happened to me on my Dad's Blazer all the time, not on my vic though...it is caused from static, it's funny, I remembered that whenever I got out of the car, I'd use my butt to close teh door, he he...
i've got the same exact problem. my wife hates it too, she b!tches at me every time. I'm used to it, but I want to get leather seats soon to kill that problem along with the rest of the stock seats.

same here, one time i had a Double Big Gulp from 711 and i went to get out of my car, it sent a shock so bad through my body that my arm like spazzed and i almost knocked the cup out of my other hand and spilt it all over my car. lets do the math, water+static+metal = BIG SHOCK!
I believe it's the seats.. but here's an easy fix!; when you are getting out, just hold onto the outer door frame or any metal body part WHILE you're getting off the seat/out of the car.. tada, no more shock. haven't been shocked since I started doing this last week (just got the car last tuesday and was hating those f'ing shocks)

I thought I screwed up the wiring and that's why it was happening, good to know EVERYONE here gets zapped from their Civic... my passengers are getting shocked and they think my car hates them. And yeah, usually it's when I've just cleaned the car, a new coat of wax...etc.

every car i've had does this. i have leather in the new accord and it still happens sometimes. i've learned to grab the door as exiting (when i think about it...not always), and i generally nudge the door with my forearm to take the shock in a non-painful spot as i get out (learned behavior...pavlov anyone?).
just hold the door or frame before you lose contact with the car...as slowvr4 said.
