Talking DIY - Smoked Taillights for Sedan

Hi guys. First of, I'd like to give props to HustleLikeM0FO for his diy on coupe taillights. I got bored today and decided to smoke the altezzas I used to have on my sedan (went back to stock). I know this might be considered as a repost but I'd like to share my first diy that I've done myself and post it here. I've used the same tint spray that was used in HustleLikeM0FOs diy, that is Pactra Racing Finish (RC294) but didnt use a clear coat gloss because I didnt have one at the time, and dont think I needed it. And believe me, you WILL need at least 2 cans of the tint spray. It took me EXACTLY the 2 cans that I had.

Before you do anything make sure you've got a bunch of newspaper covering the floor otherwise you'll get ugly marks after you're done.
Ok. Lets get it going. Here are my altezzas that I got bored of therefore went back to stock.

Make sure you clean each of the pieces carefully with a glass cleaner. I've used Rain X and a paper towel.

Cover everything that you dont want the spray to get on. In this case, I've decided to cover the reverse light.

One more thing. Always use protection. Use your head. The paint smells bad, its toxic and you'll want to use a mask, just like me (thanks dad)

I did everything almost exactly as in the other diy for coupe tails. Spray 12in from the surface back and forth moving constantly. Spray it as much as you desire for the first coat. Thats how the tails looked after the first coat was applied:

After youre done putting the first coat on, you might need to put the tails in a safe place free of particles flying around looking for the fresh paint to sit on. I've put mine in a half open box for about an hour. After the coat dries completely, put another one on the same exact way. Remember, keep spraying 12in from the surface.
This is how the tails looked like after the 2nd coat and waiting another hour to dry out:

After I've removed the covered reverse light:

Thats it. Just waiting to put them bishez back on. I hope I've helped you guys in any way. Enjoy.
Thanks again to HustleLikeM0FO for his great diy. It gave me an idea of how to do it.

Nice job on the tails.... I suggest some clear coat on that because the tint will start to peel off without it. Seeing that you're in SoCar I'm gonna ssume it gets hot down there so the tint will peel off even faster without the clear coat. You need a good amount of clear on there all in smooth and even layers if you want them to last for a while.

Thanks buddy. I'll do that. I was going to put them on like that, but you're right. I'll put them on once I get a clear coat on.

Today I've put 2 clear coats using plasti-kote classic lacquer that I've bought at Pepboys.

I'll post pictures of the tails once they dry out. I wont be able to put them on my vic until tomorrow because I've decided to put a black silicone sealant all around each of the pieces to prevent them from fogin' up.
I'll post new pictures tomorrow (I hope).

Talking -=Final Stage=-

Pics with the tails on.

One more thing. The tails look pinkish on the pictures but nothing like it in person.
They glow dark red. I dont know why the camera acts up like that.

nice.............good DIY for the 18th time

heh cdmx had his done a long time ago.........I think he was the first

way before even I did it and I had mine so long I got tired of them, but gonna go back to them soon

just a bit of advise. Keep people away from your tails. if they rest their hands on them the oils in their skin will wear off the paint after a while. Coupes don't have this problem since their tails are completely under the trunk while the tops of ours aren't.

Yes. I've realized this was a repost but it got me excited since it was my first diy project. Just wanted peepz to see what they look like Thanks for the good advice. I'll keep that in mind.

Heres how I did it: First, put 2 pieces of a scotch tape over each of the reverse light to cover them completely. Next, mark the circle with a pencil. You can see the borders of the circle better when you look at a light through the tape. After you're done marking it, take the tape off and cut along the circle line with scissors. After you're done cutting, make sure it lines up perfectly to the reverse light. You can clean the tails before you cover the reverse lights; I've put the tape first, and it didnt really make any difference.

Once you've got the reverse lights covered and the tails cleaned with a good glass cleaner, you're ready to put a first coat of window tint over the tails. I hope thats clear enough. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I've bought 2 cans of Pactra Window Tint off ebay. They sell them separately but will combine shipping. There are other window tint sprays but thats the one I've used. Regarding the clear coat, I've bought one 12oz can at Pepboys for a couple of bucks (dont remember the exact price). You're looking for about $15 in spending.
