Crap...Someone Help Me Now...
Crap...Someone Help Me Now...
Ok guys heres the deal, about a little over a month ago I bought a 2005 Ex Civic Coupe 5spd. Now after a few days of driving the car I noticed the car door was actually a few shades darker than the rest of the body. I brought the car in and the service manager told me he had to get the district rep to come look at the car. After several calls and a month of waiting the day has come (tomorrow).
Now I have a few ideas, first of I've already demanded a rental car for me to drive while the car is being painted; they are either painting the whole side of the car or the door. Now I'm also thinking of something to demand in compensation. I dunno what to demand though, my parent said to ask for a new car. Ask them to give me a new civic and say because we dunno what else could be wrong with the car. But my problem is already installed the 22mm ITR sway bar and an injen intake. Or my other idea is to ask them to give me a Civic SI and have me pay the different.
Now out the door I paid $17,500 for the civic ex. How much do you guys think I will have to pay in difference for the SI? Do you think I should ask for a new EX? ask for a Si and pay the difference? or get the car painted and ask for something else in compenstation?
Help I need to know by tomorrow what i'm going to do!!
Thanks

I'd stick with it because they're just going to take more and more money if you move to another vehicle. Unless of course you've got the cash to burn...
I'd say you'll be lucky just to get the car painted. It's been my experience with dealerships that once you've made a purchase from them, they're rather reluctant to do anything to help you out. (Especially if it's gonna cost them money.)
I just get mad at the managers, and since the district manager is here I can get really mad. I always get mad and make a scene and talk about calling up honda corp and stuff. Really scares them....its how u gotta do it otherwise they will push u around. Sometimes u gotta remind them your the one paying for the car and that ur the one driving it.

yeah i agree, you are lucky that they are repainting it for you especially after you bought the car! other sales person just treat you as a stranger after you makee the deal with him.. what a scumbag....
LoL...how about helping me with the SI or replace it with another ex issue? Can we drop how lucky I am? And tell me what u guys think about getting another ex or to go for a si? I'm about 90% sure I can make them give me another ex, but the si will take some talking.
If you think you can get another EX, I would go for that. Even if they repaint the whole side of your existing car it will be hard for them to get a 100% match. If you could get an SI by simply paying the difference, that would be cool too, but I'd be highly surprised.

To me the Si's dont feel that much faster, and an SI will also make your insurance jump. My insurance was going to go up 300 every 6 months when I was thinking about trading for an Si. I think if you got an Si you would just have remorse over not getting an RSX, and having the 200 hp, and the cycle of desire would be never ending.

Well, I don't know how the laws are structured in CA, but here in TX, the dealer can only be made to take back a vehicle if it's a "lemon" or if they misrepresented its condition at the time of sale -- like telling you that you were buying a brand-new, factory-fresh car when you actually got a car that was (for example) wrecked and repaired. Do you know why the paint doesn't match?
I have the magnessium color of the ex. Very nice color I like it.
I have a plan already. I'll share it with u guys and tell me what you think.
I plan on going down there and talking to this rep. I'm going to go, I want a new car. The color is messed up on this car and I dunno what else can be wrong with it. It might be a problem car for all I know. Also I came back within the first week of buying this car and you made me wait over a month to finally get back to me. No one from honda called me to tell me about this meeting, in actual fact I called and you told me my meeting was tomorrow.
They are going to say something a long the lines of, well you have 1000 miles on the car and thats depreciation, we'd give you a new car but we want you to pay for the difference. I'll say the car wouldn't have 1000miles on it if you didn't make me wait over a month, the 1000 miles isn't my fault you can't expect me not to drive the car. Thats why I have a car, to drive it.
So if they say ok we give you a new car I go. Well lemme go look at the cars on your lot. Look around, whisper and talk with my dad and come back and go. Well I'm kinda of afraid to get the ex from you guys because of what happened. How about an accord v4? what kinda of deal will you cut for me? and if they go ok we will pay for your taxes and you pay the difference of the car and pay for registration again we will do it. I'll sit there think and go how about the si? Then if they say yes I'll go for it. Hopefully the difference is only 2-3k i can afford that.
P.s. I have a injen intake and ITR sway installed. They can't refuse the car in a trade for another one (if they say yes to this idea) because of the mods right? I have the stock sway and air box. But they can't say no because they claim warrenty right? The sway has been on for 1 month intake about 1 week.

No I don't know why the paint doesn't match. They could have messed the car up in transport and replaced the door for all I know. I bought the car of the lot on a rainy day with 3 miles on the car, it was brand new. I didn't see the paint mismatch until a few days later. Its very hard to notice the mismatch unless you really look at it, even the service manager was like "Woah I wouldnt' have noticed it until you told me, but now it really stands out....especially in the right lighting."

They're going to repaint the car. It will be an ice cold day in hell before they give you another car. Go ahead and get the idea of getting an Si or Accord out of your head right now, you're just going to be disappointed. Calling corporate would likely get you laughed off the phone if you suggested something like that. I'm not trying to be mean, but be realistic. You're hardly their only customer, just let them correct their apparent mistake and move on.

magnesium metallic is the best color honda has out on all their cars right now imo. looks very good. i would still just say let them paint it and keep the car. you already started modding it.

most likely why ur door is a differetn shade is because the car was damaged in some way. when new cars are being shipped if they are damaged and the cost of repairs is less than $2000(i'm pretty sure, at least with the companies i deal with) the shipping company repairs the car and it still can be sold as new. there is nothing illegal with this and they do not have to let u know. that is why whenever i get a new car i always pick it up during the day so i can examine it.
there are also some benifits to this like the time one of the drivers was carrying a truck full of caddy's. his truck ran out of gas and took an escalade of and drove back to town to get more gas. after the whole thing he put like 200 miles on it so the dealer refused the car. the shipping company was forced to buy it and if i had the money would have sold it to me for 5k below invoice on a fully loaded escalade

if they are repainting it free of charge consider urself lucky, they didn't have to do it. i mean theres no harm inasking for more, i just wouldn't count on it, they are already being more than genorous
I think your best bet is to request a replacement. a similar situation happened to me when I was buying my car. fortuneately before I bought the car I gave it a really good inspection on the lot. while doing this I noticed more than 2 dozen dimples as they're called some were really big others not so. they basically looked like little bubbles in the paint (under the clear coat). I made the argument that they could result in a corrosion issue in a few years, and they were unsightly.
the sales manager gave me two options, 1. Honda will do everything it can to repaint the vehicle and make me happy, or 2. they'll get me a replacement vehicle.
I went for option 2, even the sales manager said that was the better choice, he would be extremely reluctant to remove the factory paint. since it's very difficult to match mettallic paints.
cool thing was they let me drive around the car with the dimples for a week til they found me a replacement, I put 300mi on it

I would stick with the one you have now... dont be too harsh on the dealership.. i dont think they MEANT to give you it uneven.. at least they are re-painting what doesnt match to give you what you wanted and to satisfy your needs...
I think they should at least give me a new civic. I don't think getting the car painted is lucky, I would have presumed that they gave me a paint job. Which they are, but I'm going to demand a new civic, and if they say ok then i'll go for the si.
