Tein Flex Coilovers for 01+ Civic
Hi! I'm narrowed it down to which coilover overs I want now and they're the Tein Flex... But I'm wondering why they're so stiff? According to the Tein website at http://www.tein.com/ti/a22.html they're 12kg in the front and 14kg in the rear. Now they're quite a bit stiffer than the RSX and Civic Si version of the Tein Flex... I know they have the same type of suspension and they're heavier... They're 8kg and 10kg... Thanks!

Because they designed them that way. Why not call and ask them? We really can't tell you why they are so stiff. If you want them but don't want that stiff then ask for custom spring rates.
Yea, I was also looking at these coilovers and noticed the same thing. SUPER STIFF rates. I know you can get them in different rates, but does anyone know why the "standard" rate is so stiff? Ayone have a set? If so, how do they ride? Thanks, AJ

my roads in fl are very nice just random spaces of road arent very well... so thats why im going w/ 10's
the flex u can go up/down 2kg/mm on front but rear HAS to be 14's becuase the rearsprings r so short the only ones they made that size are 14kg/mm
i feel that with my 10's FRONT THE RIDE will be alot better..i know ill have more oversteer ut i can dial it down by stiffening front more.. the rear isnt harsh at all.. so i thin its just cause the weight of engine... maybe im talking out my butt.. im watching tv at same time.

Actually Riley, the rears have more effect on the comfort than the front does. The less weight/higher rate makes the back a lot harder than the front, which has the weight of the drivetrain helping to dampen it out. I got a much bigger quality difference changing out the rears a little bit than I did swapping fronts for a lot lower rates.

A lot of Tein models have been pulled from the US market or never put up for sale here because our roads are so horrible. I wouldn't be surprised in a few months if they backed off the rates. I believe Riley said you can order them with whatever rates you want, but if you want softer, The SS-P came out with all the features except the adjustable length shock body.
Quoting from http://www.tein.com/flexdamp.html "TEIN Type FLEX damper kit was designed to provide driving comfort and sports performance with its full-length adjustment system. We have incorporated separate height and preload adjustments, which allows you to have various set-ups to meet different road conditions. The FLEX Damper kit includes pillow ball upper mounts and is compatible with the EDFC, for maximum performance for the streets."
If you look at all the Flex applications, the EM2 Civic has the highest spring rate out of every car basically. Which doesn't really make sence... I should really call them or something on it...

Interestingly enough, when my flex coilovers arrived i read the instruction guide, and it had said that the flex were for off-road use only and shouldn't be driven on public roads.
Go figure.

today i lowered front spring rate to 10kg/mm and rears r srill 14kg/mm and they ride amamamazing.. they are super comfortable on the street the oversteer is a little tomuch but i just need to redo my edfc presets..
highway driving was always nice
if u order flex order 10/14 unless u want super hard fronts

But for the stupid ricers who want "the best" and do now know any better, Tein says that the flex are great on the street. I am sure they are great on the highway at 50+ because my JICs are great on the highway. They suck on bumpy, shitty roads and I am only at 8/9.
