Anyone have details on changing Timing Belt

I have 67,000 miles on my 2002 civic EX 1.7 and would like to change the timing belt myself. I have changed many timing belts on different model cars before, but I would like the service maual step by step details to make the job go smoothly.

hmm have not messed around with the vic but think its about the same as doing it to any other car. I have the same model as you and believe you could go to a autoparts store and grab the book or look around for a pdf of it on the net

Not that much to it, just time. You should change the belt, tensioner, waterpump and valve cover gasket at the same time. The waterpump is driven by the timing belt, so why not do yourself the favor and change it while you are in there. If you have changed belts before, you should not have any problems. As long as you know how to line up all the marks.

1. Why do it 23K early? The timing belt is on 90K intervals.
2. Buy the Honda Service Manual.

why do it at 90K when the manual says it should be changed at 110K.

There is alot involved in it.

Just one question to everyone, does a new waterpump come with a new pulley on it, or does the old pulley attach to the new pump? And are there any special tools to remove the pump?

sprocket (~pulley) should always comes w/ it. the pumps are held by several 10mm bolts.

you dont need a timing light for this. When you are putting the new belt on, you have to make sure the marks on the crank pulley line up and the marks on the cam pulley line up. If they do, you are good to go.

If you have the service manual. I'd pay you for you time and trouble if you'd mail or fax the part on changing the timing belt. Or if anyone else would be willing to do this, just pm me please.

I'm thinking of doing this, just don't want to spend $60 on the service manual to look at one item.

I just called my parts store, and they now offer a Haynes manual, for like $12. I checked in the past, so this must be a new item. I'll get that and see how detailed it is.

Timing Belt DIY I ran across a good DIY for the d16, which is the same procedure for us. Enjoy and good luck.
