2004 Civic EX sedan weird noises starting from a complete stop
Might be nothing...will check out at dealer on next oil change.
Whenever i start from a dead stop, and as the wheels begin to turn, i hear a metallic liquid sound. (Sounds like water boiling but with some metal in the pot). As soon as the wheels have made 1 or 2 revolutions the sound dissapears!???
its not very audible, but if i try to duplicate the noise with the glove box open, i can hear it better.
Any ideas what in the world could this be? I am not worried but curious.

I just hope it aint the tranny. it just sounds like some clunky fluid moving around? I am scheduled for Saturday.

I have been trying to isolate the sound. I tried moving the steering column to a different position and guess what!? the sound is still there but more muted. Can it be the mateiral that the adjustable steering column uses?

Well the sound is gone. Lower the steering column adjuster lever. Move the steering column up and down frantically like 20 times. then close the lever to your desired position. The sound should be gone.

I think there is some type of plastic styrofoam that is causing the noise when the car starts to roll from a stop. I vagualy remember this problem with my 1995 civic coupe way back!

the noises are still there. I dont know what the F this is. I will just check it this weekend. If i cant find the problem i am going to just ignore it.
I am rotating my tires this weekend so i will check if there is something caught on the axles, since the only time i ever hear this is when the axles/wheels go from non moving to a moving state.

I am only avail on sat but my dealer said they only check out noises mon-frid. thats some BS. So when you go to your dealer to fix the coil spring, see if you can have them check it.

On the way home i had some fun and just played with the throttle/gas pedal. it started to make the noise at wot. then when i went to local roads, the noise dissapeared when i tried to replicate from a dead stop. so maybe there was an issue with the throttle cable? can that make a vibrating noise from rest position through pressing the gas?
If so i am not going to go to honda service. I asked the svc manager why they wont investigate my noise on saturdays. his response was "well we have oil change only techs on weekends and you DONT want them doing anything to your car other than oil changes!"
Nuff said. I have to run some errands so i will try to play with my gas pedal and how fast or slow i press on it to see if the sound has really gone away.

ok, i dont knwo why i didnt try this before but while parked i slowly pressed the gas and it made the noise as well. I then opened the glove box and held it in my hand while pressing the gas, same sound. but if i rev the engine harder and then try to slowly press it, the sound is either gone or barely audible.
So i have isolated the sound's source or a mechanical part connected to the source...
A)Throttle cable
B)Gas pedal
Any ideas on how to fix this? I really would prefer a DIY vs going to honda.

interesting so does the noise happen for you only when you start the car up after it sitting for a while, or at all times?
i only really hear it after having the car sit for a period of time and then for the first 5-10 minutes of driving afterwards (longer depending how cold it is out)

I to hear this sound in my 04' vic! I vaguely remember a post along time ago about this and heard someone mention something about the AC lines or something, once they had them flushed it went away. However, I can't remember if that post was directly related to this problem or something else.
I will probably try to get the vic into the dealer in the next couple of weeks because it is really starting to get annoying. I will post what I find out, if anything asap!!

the car is at the dealer now. initial reaction by the service guy was "heating block has fluid that might be frozen. or it needs to be flushed." but i am worried because they have had it since 8:30am and when i called at 12, they said they are still working on it.

fixed but not really. the sound is coming from the coolant and air bubbles built up in our heating/cooling system. my dealer has received several of the same complaints. They flushed/bleed everything and the noise is 99% gone.
He said that it will usually happen during the winter months and or when you use the heater. as well as make sudden changes in direction, ie the gas trapped in a 2 liter coke bottle. you flip it upside down and the bubble just moves. the sound of the coolant is mostly the part thats in the heater core, which holds the coolant right in front of the fan that blows through the vents, that heat/cool the car.
