Focus SVT
Anyone know what the SVT Focus has for hp? I was at a stop light a little while ago and saw a one take a GSR through about 3 gears. Does that seem right? I was pretty surprised!

I was gonna get this car before my civic, but then my dad woke up and realized that the insurance wouldn't offer a good price; that combined with the higher price of the car, and here I am with a civic.... well, almost.
Thanks for all the complements on my kinda car. But there are downsides and upsides to every car out there. Upsides to mine are handling, 6speed, bang for the buck. Downsides tall gearing, duel mass flywheel, little low on power.
I haven't had any major problems since I replaced my flywheel with a light weight single mass (23lbs vs 13lbs) They did have a major problem with these busting out transmissions, and some problems with the varible intake track breaking. I also fixed this with the jackson racing intake manifold.
The thing I like about civics is there is way more aftermarket part for them, they have been know for their reliability and the svt lineup has been cancled so there goes that aftermarket. But they came out with some good force induction kits before it got cancled.
Thanks to you who show alittle respect to a car that desearves some....not too much though its still a focus

I think someone makes a 8 or 9lb but I want to keep some street driveablity. And yes I agree it does make a big diff mainly in a whole lot faster shifts no more hanging revs. What kinda car do you got
na 7th gen with IHE ,flywheel ,clutch, short shift, and urethane mounts I noticed the greatest difference with the flywheel and mounts no one belives those make a difference, but they do. I keep up with cars that I should not be able to (read raced a GTO).
so the flywheel being lighter than usual, what does it take away from you. like lets say for instance i drive daily 100 miles or so. And I add the 7 lb flywheel. Will it make my car unreliable or something?

my best guy friend owns a 03 Focus SVT and he walks me everytime. It does everything better, acceleration, 1/4 mile, handling.. just everything. Not bad for $16,000.. that's less than what I paid for my civic. He's just got IHE, and he runs 14.8. Pretty quick for how heavy it is IMO

I wouldn't want too much low end torque. I'm satisfied with our cars in the lower end power(peels like hella if you want it to), I think we need more power in the top end of the speed spectrum. Honda could put a few horses more(don't know how they have to do it),slightly lighter flywheel(not too much maybe 2 pounds lighter just to help with acceleration), stiffer bushings in the transmission for even more precise feel, replcae the front lower contorl bushings with some stronger ones, lower the suspension by 1 inch(siffer springs), stiffen the engine mounts, lighter wheels, stiffer shocks and that my friends would be a pretty perfect ecno box/ sport compact,(siff rear-front anti roll bars aswell) . They wanted to make the car sporty but its the darn public(a lot of people buying the civic so Honda has to compromise for everyone to like it) who can't drive and complain about the ride stiffness, or how the tranmission is weird, or there is too much engine noise. If we had no complaints we would have a no nonesense civic ex coupe! One thing we can entirely blame on Honda is the darn stock tires in the early 7th gens! They don't do the car justice, come on Honda you make such a good car and then you put those crappy Firestones!
The acceleration will in a civic or type S will never through you back in your seat, that comes from torque like in a GTI.
I partially agree with nindoo ... I wouldn't want too much torque down low either ... and I wouldn't want a huge (I mean HUGE) torque jump anywhere in my powerband on my fwd car ... that would just mean losing traction ... which turbos are greatly known for ... ;P
tq is what gets you off the line though hp is just for say speeds above 60mph. Everyone is to much into the HP thing when it comes to drag racing. Its more about the torque in reality. Why do you think the mustangs and camaros are so good at the drags. They only have about 220whp but their pushing about 280wtq. All these turbo 4 bangers have got alot of tq example the srt4, The horsepower is not much more than a bolton RSX type s but the tq is way on up there thats why they destroy the rsx in the 1/4mile.
I would much rather be given 50wtq than 50whp on a 150hp car with 150tq.
And if your talking about traction issues. Its much easier to control wheel spin at low rpms than it is at high. Just feather it till it hooks up. The car with more tq is going to hook up just as fast with the one with high horsepower and low tq. Plus when the tq does hook up your gonna have more of the powerban that will be used rather than the last 2000rpms of the higher 4cyl hp with low tq.
These are just the facts
