Ground Controls installed - Help me! Now with pics!
Just got my ground controls installed, and they make a clunking sound around moderate turns. On larger bumps it makes a really loud cracking sound. I've done a search and read posts like Do I need to call up the shop that installed them and complain/get them to fix it? Should I get an alignment first? or should I consider raising my car a bit (the back is tucking and 3 finger gap in front).
Thanks in advance for your help...

what kind of shocks do you have?
make sure that if you dont have konis that you didnt get the koni version of the GC as they are slightly larger in dia at the rear of the car. Which meas the sleves would be loose.
my car is very tight an makes no sounds...

i have no idea, i don't have the koni versions cause the guy i bought these from told me that he had them on stock shocks as do i. I had a store install them and I think they're kind of dumb. any ideas it's crazy loud like i cringe everytime i hit a bump at over 10 mph.
Edit: I Jacked my car up and the bottom of the spring where the gold plate where the hex key goes is a few inches away from the stock perch, could this be the problem?

Mine looks like this (front, there isn't anything under the bottom it just seems stuck to the strut housing...

The spring is loose when the car is raised and so is that red threaded part...

um thats how my car was cause i got the 01 civic ground control and i got an 05'. the sleeve didnt fit around the perch on the shock or whatever its called.
so if u have an 03-05 civic than thats the same thing for you. basically right now your shocks dont have springs to absorb pressure im assuming. cause same thing that happened to me but then i just took the sleeve off and put just springs untill i got the new sleeves.
EDIT: read that u have an 01 civic so im assuming u have the wrong GC kit.

i do have a 3 finger gap in the front but the back is tucking. (pics are of the front). Do I need to call GC and if so what part should i order?
Edit: Is there any chance the shop messed it up? Maybe put the wrong springs on the front or something?

I just did a search and I read infinite012 and the number for your rear springs is what's on my fronts...(http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...control+number) i talked with gc on the phone and they said it was impossible to install a front spring on the rear.
hehe i know what the prob is......the sleeve is not big enough to fit around the shock, the sleeve should go over this part here is your pic revised
i had the same prob, do your gc's sound like they are hitting metal in the front?

yeah they screwed up two things
1) they put the fronts on the back and the backs on the fronts
2) they didn't remove that brass thing slide the sleve down and then put it back on (i'm pretty sure gc told me that's what you're supposed to do or slide it over) that pic is of the front right spring and notice the number GC125.64.75. I'm taking it into the shop tomorrow, hopefully gc faxed them a copy of the install manual so they can get it right. I'm gonna try and milk them see if i can get anything at a discount or for free since they dicked me over. :P thanks for your help everybody.

whats funny is that my friend had the same problem....then he took of the brass ring/cup off the strut but still didn't fit over the strut housing and the gc's were meant for is car, but he ended up gettin koni's with neuspeed race springs
ya same thing happened to me for the front only since it was off an 01 civic. and i didnt kno they changed sizes. hmm weird. so today i got the new sleeves and im installing them tomorrrow finally. im sick of the noise its makin haha. but i dont think its going to be as low as it is right now
in this pic....on the lowest setting for Ground Control...will it even compare to this or will it be higher?

I've nver done a GC install, but isnt there suppose to be some type of upper spring perch? The way it looks in this pic there isnt any. The spring seems to be resting right on the mount. That cant be safe and would make a bunch of noises.

this is with the perch cut and a koni insert. You can see the sleeve sitting on the base of the perch. At the top, on a stock strut you would just be able to see the top of the gold colored cap. Hope this helps

the sleeve should slide all the way down....... like that one ^ but the spring perch will be in the way so you won't be able to see it all the way down very well

yeah i don't have anything on the top of the sleve or on the top of the spring like that hm. i got the springs used, maybe he left that stuff out or something. the guy at the shop used the stock rubber bump stop at the top, he cut it down to fit, he said that the loud clunking is gone but it still creaks on turns. any idea on what that might be?
btw thanks a shitload for the pic djmota

found another pic of a complete set in a box.
the fronts should have an aluminum hat as in the pic. the rears should have a rubber hat. Also not in the pic are rubber sleeves that go in between the rear sleeve and the stock shock. Also a couple of o rings that go in between the sleeve and the front shock. If you are missing the rear rubber sleeves you can wrap your rear shock with some duct tape to build it up and slid the sleeve over that. < sounds hocky but will work fine. The fronts can go with out the o rings a little black electric tape will do for a snug fit. You want the sleeves to be snug against the shocks so they don't move when you adjust them. This should help you out.

yeah i just got the car back, the sounds they were making before are gone which is fantastic, the guy took the old rubber rings from the stock springs and cut them to fit on the gcs it seems to be working quite well. there is some creaking when i turn the wheel at very slow speeds/stopped. One thing I did notice was that the rears are raised as high as they can go yet I still only have a 1 finger gap (chance that they put the front springs on the long sleves?). but the ride is smooth (as it can be on stock shocks anyways) and the minor creaking sounds are drowned out by my stereo. should i just go ahead and get an alignment?
btw. rep for you djmota as soon as i can give it again.

drive it a while and find out the height you like best. Once you got that set then get your alignment. what size tires are you running?
