a truck is not a race car
I have had several encounters with trucks before, and I've always been opinionated about how dumb it looks to try and take your truck and make it into a race car. Nothing makes less sense than getting something that could haul around a civic in the bed, jacked up 30 feet off the ground, and then racing it like it's a damn camaro. If you want a camaro, get a camaro. don't get a truck, and then try to turn it into one.
Case in point.
Earlier today I encountered a truck that looked a lot like my ex-fiancee's brother's.
(quick background, i dont talk to her or him or any of them really.... BAD breakup and her parents can lick my cat's stinky ***)
It's a dodge ram sport I believe, and he had the windows tinted, big ugly ram stickers on the back, a big ugly spoiler, his dumb glasspacks, and blackout headlights. He was also one of those types who knows everything, and is right about anything he argues with you about. Interestingly enough, he liked to talk smack about my "weak 4 cylinder" and his truck, etc, saying that his horsepower is more and he'd be faster anyways.
I end up next to him at a light. I was already at the light and he pulled up. Now I don't know if he realized it was me right away, but the cocky little bastid started revving his truck, glasspacks and all. I certainly wasn't going to turn down this race, and upon the light turning green, laid waste to his truck, as I have plenty of trucks before him. Chalk another one up for a "weak" 4 cylinder taking down some dumb truck thinking he has a camaro.
I've yet to lose to a truck, though I know there are fast trucks out there. The closest I ever got to losing to a truck, was an F150 lightning and a dodge ram srt-10. Now there's 2 trucks that can haul some ***. Though I don't understand the reasoning behind it, to each their own i suppose.

I got beat by a 12 second cyclose at the track once lol
the SRT -10's are suprising slow compared to what youd'd expect. However, they could pull my car behind them and prolly run the same ET lol
always nice to shame the morons out there. If they learned their lesson it would be even better though. nice kill.

Dude, it's the same reasoning behind making an economy car fast....because you can. Neither are made to go fast, but if you can make em, it's fun as hell. I had a buddy in highschool who had a 74 Cheyenne will a 400 in it. It was an automatic and would still chirp the tires shifting into second. He's beaten Mustangs, Camaros, and ricers.

a civic, if nothing else, is known for it's aftermarket, considering how many people do it vs people with trucks. a civic may be an economy car, but honda supports its aftermarket, and people make civics faster all the time.
a truck is a truck. why take some big *** dodge ram and try to turn it into a race car after you jacked it up, put monster tires on it, and strapped your rebel flag to it? half of what you've done is completely counter-productive to "racing" your truck anyways. so that's the difference.

bwahahaha.........dude, i have 2 kids that live near me. One has old dodge from the 80's and has big tires, jacked up and smoke stacks. He always drives around in the summer with a confederate flag and a US flag out the back of his pick up. The other kid up the road has a mid - late 90's dodge that is jacked up with mud tires. It is a diesel and and on the front windshield it says "I'd rather be cummin" and on the rear window it says, "Than a strokin" Oh yeah, he has smoke stacks too and he always drive around with a US flag in his truck too.

S2000:
I agree that jacking up a truck and everything is counter-productive to racing, but not everyone does that. I'm saying that you can make a truck into a race car. Lifts and huge tires isnt the way to go, just like with Civics, huge wings and cut springs arent the way to go, but people do it. If you can make a 4800 lbs truck run low 13s top 146 mph and pull .87g on the skidpad, you've accoplished something. If you are going to stereotype truck owners at least be fair and stereotype Civic owners. I thought you'd be a little more open to fast trucks, since you seem to be one of the more intelligent people on this site.

civic01vtec : I think he did mean the 7thgencivics, cuz we are on a D17 civic forum...and I don't think people call the civics as D17, B16...etc =P
on a side note back to topic, yes I also think truck racers (on the street) are ignorant, apparently they think having a big V8 and bigger horsepower than smaller cars, they'd be faster not knowing that they have ZERO cornering abilities and weigh as much as a 2 ton boulder.
that is also one of the reasons why texas sucks to live in, when I had my civic...i get revved by at least one truck driver a day.

holy crap..i can't believe the dodge ram actually thought he was going to take out an s2000.... the s2000 is mostly motor and hardly any weight compared to his big brick on wheels. truly amazing. good kill

funny thread, there are a few of you that are prety narrow minded.
i have a truck. i drive it to work. haul things in it. it is great in the snow. stops good and is ok in the corners. no, it's not a race car.
that being said does anyone want to race?

parish8 we're not narrowminded, we're just seeing things the way it is...if you drive a truck then it's obviously for towing, hauling people around or as you say drive it to work. I'm not saying trucks can't corner...lol obviously when I say they can't corner I mean they can't corner compared to an economy car given their height and weight and whatever else you technical guys want to throw in. My point is...a truck is a machine meant for things that economy, sports, or vans can't do...and that is tow huge loads of mass objects or things. So when people turn their trucks into "sport cars" it's pretty pathetic. and of course there are the exceptions to everything like truly tuned trucks for racing...but how many do u see on the streets?
people can ask why mod an economy car. why not start with a camaro if you want to go fast for cheap? it's not any diferent.
the site where i hang out the top 12 trucks are in the 11's or quicker and most of them are driven every single day.
"open your mind, open your miiiind" watched total recal today

my mind is open i never said there were no trucks that aren't fast, I'm just stating the fast trucks to fast economy car ratio is an unfair match. and wasn't the whole subject of this thread about people that race their trucks thinking it's fast (without even modding it)? Don't get me wrong, I hate civic/neon/mustang ricers as much as truck ricers, but we are on the subject of truck ricers so I will bash on those LOL. I give props to Lightnings and SSRs because they're the two trucks I like. If you want to build a fast truck, more power to you, but don't try to race people if you put offroading tires and raise ur truck 3 feet off the ground.
