I have a 03 civic si. Can you recommend a good oil filter wrench for the small honda oil filters? Is there an oil filter wrench that you place on top of the oil filter and use a socket and ratchet to turn the hex on top of the oil filter wrench? There's not much room for the metal band oil filter wrenches. Please post urls. Thanks.

you really shouldnt need one, just use your strength and twist it off. But go to a local autozone or something, they have them. Just grab the filter and compare which one fits. All you need is a racthet, an extension piece, and it works fine.

Get one of those wrenches that you use with the adjustable rubber strap.... that's what I use and it works fine.

BTW... Just because you hand tighten an oil filter... doesn't mean you can loosen them by hand.

I have one of these stuck in my trunk. Uses a standard socket wrench. Bought it just in case whichever quick lube place I use has a problem getting the oil filter off of my non-7thgencivic. Happened in the past. They lost the right tool to remove the oil filter, and they tried channellocks, the band oil filter wrenches, screwdrivers they jabbed into it, etc. Took them 50 minutes to finally get the correct tool from a parts store. Idiots.

the general rule is to loosen it with a tool and tighten it by hand. i bought one of the universal ones that go on the top of the filter and it works fine.
