Momo Steering Wheel Installation

I purchased a Momo steering wheel for my 2004 Civic. Does anyone know how to disable the driver's side front airbag sensor?

pop the center piece out of the stock wheel, and unplug it. one thing that's KINDA important... UNHOOK THE BATTERY FIRST!!! and then let it sit for 30 minutes or so.

I don't understand how that will disable the sensor. Each time I go to start the car, wont the ECU try and verify that the airbag is working properly? If the sensor is unplugged, wont the ECU detect an error? I think you need to try and find a way to trick the sensor (i.e., make it think the airbag is still attached).
