blown headgasket...warranty DENIED...please read.

so yesterday, i pull into the dealer thinking i had a busted radiator, i was leakin coolant and i noticed the lower hose was FROZEN solid. first of all i'm puzzled why the hose froze, i just topped it off 2 weeks ago, and its not like i just poured water in. I'm still under warranty, so i figured they'd take care of it. they look at it, and say that i have a blown gasket from the coolant line being frozen, and maybe even need a mill job. so i'm like ok, well do what needs to be done, i'm under warranty. NOPE...they say b/c this issue arose due to the coolant freezing, and the fluids are the owner's responsibility, that this one is out of my own pocket. This is a $800 job we're talkin about. Everyone knows its nearly impossble to buck up coolant; you buy in a bottle premixed 50/50. so the fact that i choose to do my own oil changes, and check my own fluids, denies me of my warranty, when something freaky goes wrong like my frozen coolant.

i called up honda customer service and opened a case with them, but the service manager at the dealer told me it was useless. not to mention he made comments about my "severe" modifications of i/e, and stereotyped the way i drove the car. So i'm alittle more than aggrevated at this point, and i'm just venting for the most part, but if anyone has any forking suiggestions, I'm all ears.

I think you're SOL...I swear I hate these dealers. Bunch of sorry a$$ mvther fvckers man I'll tell ya. They are all money hungry and dont give a rats a$$. I hear about things like this all the time. Thats why I dont believe in buying any extended warranties anymore PERIOD because they wont honor the warranty when you really need them to anyway so its just a waste of money IMO. I only buy parts from the dealers. Never will I ever pay them to do anything to my car. Sorry to hear about the bad luck.

i live next to rick case. it's like one of the worlds largest honda dealers.I was having problems with my car jumping at low rpms. So figure something happened to my computer.so I went in there with CAI rims coilovers exhaust and Nitrous on the car. I told them I never touched the ecu so it's still under warrenty. they said hell no look at your car.(kep in mind they sell cars with I/E already) so I left and came back at 7AM when the seriice dept. was full as hell and started yelling at the manager that this was BS I never touched the ecu and they sell modified cars off the lot whats the difference if they mod it or I do. I said what in the hell do you think people buy civics for? I guess they are just built shitty. Well after having it out and everyone looking at me the manager pull off in his office and says he just wants me to relax and they will take car of it right away. I get the ecu swapped for free. Just go in when they are busy and act a dam FOOL!

^^ Haha yeah thats a good story. I'm glad it worked for you in your situation. Sometimes I do hear about the consumer coming out on top as the winner in warranty battles, but its not easy. You really have to fight these bastards tooth and nail to get them to do hardly anything under warranty sometimes.

I had a little work done under warranty. A few rattles and creakes in the interior and they did new front struts the day before I put in my Goldlines, I was pretty happy. Knowing them helps.

Well, if their coolant interval is 36K and the warranty is 36K, then I think anything leaking causing the line to freeze is on their ***. The cooling system should be covered for at least the first 36K according to them, including any leaks it springs.
Have you ever, and I mean ever had it in there for any of those interval maintanances? Cuz if you have, they should have checked that and caught it. Its just as much their fault as yours.
Get a lawyer if you have to... you shouldn't be responsible for this.

good luck w/ this. maybe try going to a different dealer. maybe try going to a 3rd party mechanic to get everything diagnosed, hoping that he can show something else happened to cause the coolant line to freeze it. that is bullshit they are trying to pull on you. if the coolant is good, that is pure crap. it's been cold, but not that cold

either do what hyaboosta did, or walk in there and tell them to prove to u that the modifications caused the damage. thats actually one thing that most dealers overlook, its actually on them to prove that the modification caused the damage, and if they cant, guess what, theres no way they could deny u warranty coverage. and like i said, if that doesnt work, do what hyaboosta did.

Correction, if you're in Cbus, avoid Immke AND Roush. I hear Hinderer is good, and I've always had good luck with Hugh White. Roush has jerked me around before, never again.

I'd give AHM a call. I bet they'd like to know about this.

thats bs, my dealership we have heads send out all the time to get resurfaced because of damage to headgaskets or coolant problems. Talk with honda customer relations. Trust me you wont get anywhere with the service person at the dealership. If that dosnt work ask to speek with the honda rep for that dealer. He has the authority to do work under "good will".

Lol, if you're under warranty, then it's covered. I don't know how coolant could freeze in the first place, but that's not your fault unless you poured water in there. Time for a road trip to the next dealership.

Dealers are always trying to rip you. especially in the service departments. I have 2 good friends that work at Honda, one is a tech and the other is a valet. There are about 3 other techs i know.

They are always telling me how the service writers and managers are denying ppl warrenty etc. ****, before my friends worked there. I brought my car in for various fixes such as:

rocking driver seat
trunk release lever wont unlock,
rear deck lock rod too long

they said they will mail me a letter when the parts come in. BOY DID THEY LIE TO ME. NEVER GOTTEN A DAMN THING. now im at 48k miles and wont be able to get those things fixed under warrenty.

Contact Honda of America talk to them. I had a problem with the dealer about replacing my clutch assembly. The service manager claimed I drove too hard and I farked it up myself. I asked why he thought that and he replied: "Since you have an intake and a strut brace you probably take it autocrossing." I laughed my *** off, and told him he cannot accuse with some made up story, can I talk to your supervisor. He then overnighted the assembly and had it installed the day it came in.

Or just go to another dealer with the rad Hose not frozen up....

Just make sure your coolant is OK like minus 30 degrees or whatever and take it to another dealer ...

The other dealer will not know if it froze or not...and will not be able to say its your fault...

Common try this and go see another Honda dealer im sure there is more than one you can go to...

well i have my own probs from my dealer in vegas. car is running rich and idoling ar around 400 rpms and sometimes stalls..for the past 3 months iv been going back in 4th and has been sitting at honda for a month off and on. they say its 02 sensor and map sensor get it fixed same prob.. everytime its a diff problem, im damn tired of it and they don't kno whats wrong.. well my neighbor used to own a dealership and told me that the sensors and ecu were covered under warranties. federal law that is called emissons control warranty, which is valid up to 75k and somethings to 150k.. so all those sensors replaced were supposed to be free!! they checked the ecu and it cost me almost 400 bucks and that is also covered. the dealers make u pay for it and then tell the waranty company and are paid AGAIN. im goin tom.. my neighbor gave me 5 sheets off the net stating all these facts.. the dealers are a bunch of theifs!

Its not the modifications in this case. Unfortunatly i have been dicked over by the dealerships too but buddy you are SOL. The fluid changes and things like that fall under general maintenance and there is not a doubt in my mind that the fact that your coolant froze did cause this i guarantee it. Unfortunatly as we all know if you read your "LIMITED WARRANTY" dislcaimer anything that has to do with "GENERAL MAINTENANCE" is entirely 100% up to the consumer. So therefore you are in fact **** outta luck, but i would like to see you go in there and give them the business over it. I would like to see that arrest report.
