Radar Detector
hey ive got a Cobra ESD 9000 Radar Detector il sell it for $60 obo it will definitaly reduce speeding tickets. the only reason im selling it is because i have two.
Can these radars be detected by cops?
how good are they? if you and I go for a boot together to test it out, will it pick up every cop car on the road, or does it only pick up the radar device they use, so you know if a cop is looking for speeders in the area
plz lemme know, if this serves the purpose and it not detectable, ill take it!

Yea...Me and the cop had a good discusion on radars. I think they've upgraded on the VG-2 technology, because mine was immune to VG-2. If your going to buy this radar you must unplug it right away when u get a cop signal!! else you will most likely get burned.
Outta curiosity, how will the know which person has it in their car if a group of 10 cars pass by? are their detector detectors so good that they can detect the exact location of the detector?

a cops radar will react just like yours when u pass by another car with a radar. if a cop passes buy u and your with other cars there is no way they know its your car. i have detected ever cop with mine never had a problem. if it starts slowly beeping a cop is around but to close, it gives u more then enought time to unhook it. and therefore they have no idea where it came from. its also good to use if u go on a road trip in the states, when i go i detected tones of radars there. aslong as u dont just leave it sitting on the dash the whole time and pay attention to it,. there amazing. i use it all the time.

and not all detectors are detectable. im not sure which ones are and which arnt but i know some arnt, if the cops radar is off when u pass buy they wont be able to track u. but from experience i have never passed a cop without it going off. so u may not beable to detect off duty cops but i have never experienced this. its not a huge deal if your buying a good one or not just rip it out when u get the first couple beeps. and dont be alarmed if it goes off near huge neon lights like harley davidson shops set me off sometimes.

SIG dont waste your money. these things are great if your driving through the states, but in Canada you'll get this taken away plus a nice $200 ticket. Also OPP just bought about 60 radar detector detectors,
not to mention SIG, for speeding around toronto your gonna get clocked by a laser trap, and once they got you on laser no matter how much your detector beeps you wont be able to react in time.
sorry I dont mean to poop, I might buy it off you if you have it closer to new years because im driving down to new york city, wouldn't mind shaving some time

Inveterate speed freaks should beware of a stealthy new threat to their claim over the open road: a virtually unbeatable species of "radar detector detector" is quickly being adopted by Canadian police forces to nab motorists who have outlawed radar detectors.
The Spectre II, by Stealth Microsystems Pty Ltd., is selling briskly across the country.
The Ontario Provincial Police now has about 60 units on patrol, as do other forces in provinces where radar detectors are illegal.
Spectre II picks up radio frequency "leakage" coming from the radar detector's oscillators (roughly, its electronic tuning forks) across a much wider range of gigahertz frequencies than in the past.
With older equipment, the Ontario police force estimated about 70 per cent of radar detectors slipped past its net.
The technically superior Spectre II, built in Australia, has improved their capture rate substantially since it was introduced in 2002, says Sgt. John McNall, speed management co-ordinator for Ontario.
"The only reason people have a (radar) detector is they want to speed," said McNall.
"What's happening now is they are being lulled into a false sense of security (whereas) we have an exceptional device."
The Uniden LRD-967 is detectable at 986 metres, ditto the LRD-7055C radar detector at less than 560 metres, the Cobra 9560 at 1,400 metres, the Rocky Mountain Radar DLS310 at 1,650 metres, and the PNI Traveller II at 800 metres, he said.
"Currently, nothing on the market can defeat Spectre II," said "Radar" Roy Reyer, a retired police officer and certified radar instructor who sells radar products from his Arizona-based Web site.
Manufacturers including Escort and Beltronics are working on prototype devices to defeat Spectre.
Motorists from B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan shouldn't feel entirely safe, although they can legally own radar detectors.
In Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes, where ownership is banned, police in recent years have begun meting out strict punishment to tourists, on the assumption they should have known to disconnect their devices, said McNall.
Along with better means of seeking out radar detectors, police have added to the arsenal they use to catch speeding cars.
"POP" radar, developed some four years ago by MPH Industries, sends a burst at 65 milliseconds that can defeat over 85 per cent of commercially available radar detectors. It's gaining popularity among state forces in Nevada, New York and Florida, though not yet in Canada.
And portable guns that point beams of light at speed violators, instead of radar, are becoming routine across North America.
Still, Reyer's site receives five orders a day from hopeful Canadians ordering mostly higher-end units, such as Escort's SR7 and the Beltronics RX75, or the newest products: jammers, such as Blinder's M-20, that stay dormant until they detect a laser beam, then send out their own flood of light to confuse the police device.
To increase the odds of beating light, there is "Veil," a coating available since December that borrows the principles of stealth used in the U.S. fighter jet program.
Painted onto headlamps and licence plates, it masks those key targeting areas by as much as 50 per cent, giving a car going about 120 kilometres an hour roughly seven additional seconds of warning.
Speeders should ask which technology was used to catch them -- since radar and even POP radar are comparatively inexact, motorists hauled into court have successfully argued they weren't speeding, Reyer said.
Against Spectre II, Reyer can only recommend defensive maneuvers.

ya i cant say ive ever used one in toronto but here in ottawa there perfect. they could have the best radar detectors as long as there is atleast one car around you they cant prove it was you.
Yea but the new cop detectors are lazer and radar equiped. My cobra could detect lazer and radar with a full 360 degree view. Its just the fact that the police have better technology. I got nabbed in woodbridge on highway 7...**irony where else** the cobra was beeping in unplugged it.. right when i looked back in my rear view mirror i noticed the lights of a black impala. i knew i was fuked. nice $180 ticket that you can not fight!!
and Kornsined no lol they dont burn it as wrecking the detector...i just meant you will get cought.
I'm not trying to say, not to buy this radar detector. JUST MAKE SURE you unplug it when u hear it beeping.

Most radar detectors can detect laser radar, but the problem is once they've detected it, it is because the cop has already pointed the gun at your car and clocked you, meaning you are already screwed if you were speeding. The beam used for laser is about the width of a pencil whereas older radar was a wide beam. To my knowledge nothing out there will pick up laser radar in time for you to react.
