Exclamation When is it too late to boost?

My car's about to roll past 40,000 miles and i was just wondering if eveyone thinks it would still be safe to boost. I'm pretty sure it is, but i dunno if after 40k that the engine would weaken a little. Basically i'm asking do you think it would still hold under 6lbs of boost for daily driving? By the time i boost i'll probably have 42-43k on it.

My car has 36,000 and I just did my kit in August. Holding up great! But, I don't beat on it.....thats the thing, some people get carried away and break stuff.

that's another thing, i haven't really "babied" my car for the past few months. No problems with it, just paranoia

I have 40k on my car and have been racing it off and on for almost a year boosted. It still feels great and I know everything is in working order b/c I installed and wired everything.

I'd say past the 75K mark would be not such a GREAT idea because of blow by.

Just because a car hits 75,000 miles does not mean it is automatically going to start having oil blowby problems. I have worked on many cars that will leakdown 99-100% with over 75,000 miles. There is no reason no to turbo over 40k, unless the engine was not well maintained.

This is true, but that is also under a HUGE assumption....most people know how to take care of their motor.

YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT ASSUMPTIONS?

Agreed. That is why I put "unless the engine was not well maintained." Even if it isn't well maintained a honda shouldn't be burning any noticible oil at 75k unless you are running the engine to redline every day, especially with the useful life of a stock honda motor is 200k+ miles. If you're burning oil at 75k you must have seriously done something wrong.

I put a turbo on a 1995 Civic with 150k miles 6 months ago, and it runs perfectly.

We of course did leakdown/compression tests before the turbo install to make sure everything was still good.

Moral of the story: do a leakdown/compression check, and if you get good results, who cares about mileage!

That 11 second BMW has 180k on the clock, and runs 18psi on the stock bottom end.

The bottom end may hold up fine but things like gaskets, bearings, valves, springs, retainers, things like that may not.

Gaskets all go out at some point in time. So do seals. Bearings don't go out unless there's a stupid high mileage or some kind of oil/parts alignment problem.

Gaskets and seals are also cheap. You just have to do the work yourself to replace them. Anyone who turbos their car needs to be ready and able to do that work themselves, otherwise you shouldn't be so drastically modifying a car.

HyaBoosta will become famous soon enough
I have 81k and im just about to finish putting together my turbo kit. im going to do a compression test and leakdown next week. Im going to boost this engine till I port and polish and sleeve the spare block that I have at home(9k).So it should hold up long enough. I say I take pretty good care of my car.
