Help me choose a bass amp...
I am thinking (and have been thinking) about getting a new mono amp for my subs...I like my JBL 1200.1, but I have a few small issues with it that bug the hell out of me. The biggest problem being that the power output seems to change from day to day, which could just be phsycoacoustics. The JBL is the weekness in my system IMO, and I am thinking about updating.
So give me your opinions...especially amps that you have a lot of experience with...and no overated junk please.
So my stipulations for an amp are:
-Must be at or under $500
-Must be at least 1200 watts RMS at 2 ohms
-Must be a solid amp from a reputable company.
-Must not draw a lot of current compared to other kilowatt+ amps.
-Must be able to sound good with My 2 IDmaxes.
So what are your suggestions guys? I have given up on matching amps...so I am open to almost any brand (except for the bosses, pyles, and rockwoods of the world
)...i just want the real deal.

has to be an amp that puts out atleast 1200 watts at 2 ohms...so that eliminates a couple.
Also, the just has to be able to put out nice, clean power...crossovers, boosts, phase etc are things that i use on my amp...so those items are not important...just the power

The JL is a Nice amp...but I think it would kill the alternator with my 2 other amps...it is supposed to be a current sucking monster!

check caraudioforum
lotsa xenon's have been crapping out on people
tantrum's though i've seen be pretty solid, they usually do 1400+ on the birthsheet
brutus wouldnt be a step up from your jbl in quality really
if you would have gotten d4's, id have a bunch more suggestions. looooootsa huge 2 channel amps that do 1000-1800 @ 4 ohms that i could list so you could get the beautiful benefit of a/b

I ordered the Tantrum, mainly because the Xenon was just way to big. The tantrum is about the size of the JBL, so I am hoping to fit it on the same board. I have always liked how the Tantrum looks too.
An a/b would be nice, but I prolly would not notice the difference anyways. PG says the Tantrum is class T...what the heck is that??
Ludlam, would you take the Brutus over the Tantrum. The reason I did not consider the Brutus are because 1)it is a very small area up against my back seats where is would be located...the JBL runs super cool, but I have seen online several people complaining about the Brutus with heat issues. 2) I don't think it puts out maximum power at 2 ohms, and some have said that it is overrated powerwise, and 3) it seems to long to fit it where I would want to fit it
Do you think the Tantrum is a step up from the JBL, or are they about the same in quality and performance?

I have 2 dual 4 ohm voice coil subs, which would either be 2 ohms with both wired in parrellel...or 8 ohms wired in series.
...i forgot all of this stuff and I don't remember, and I am getting a headache thinking about it...all that is important is that i need an amp that can put out a grip of power at 2 ohms mono.

You series the VC and parellel the subs, it s 4ohm. Or you Parellel the VC and Parellel the subs, thats 1ohm.
You are forgetting to account for the two woofers being parelelled to eachother I think. If you had ONE DVC 4ohm sub it would be 8 or 2.
