My custom molded monitor in the dash...and more!!
I would first like to thank the members of 7thgenecivic.com for all your help. I am nowhere near the end of my "entire project" but because of your help I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I would also like to point out a few members by name for there help in this project; whiterabbit, dannn, beamer, AzNmikex215 and MegaHurtz. You all either supplied answers to my questions directly and/or started thread(s) that helped me along the way. For that,
I thank you.
Now, what I would like to share first is the several stages of my screen install. I molded a 7" touch screen (non vga) in the dash. I used fiberglass reinforced bondo and fiberglass fabric to cover the gaps. Took me about two weeks to finish, but I have a full time job and somewhat of a life on the weekends. I think it looks pretty good. Take a look and tell me what you think.

That would be sweet. I have a friend with a hatch back that is working on a doing the same thing. His car is going to be crazy, like 12 psi of boost and his intercooler is huge

THat is really NICE MAN!!! i wish i knew how to fiberglass or bondo. One problem i foresee with the screen being flush is that it angles upward. It might make the screen difficult to see And some colors like black might look weird. My screen is not flush but it is angled facing pretty straight. Flush DOES look nicer then mines though. Mines has the gaps on the sides. lol but its all painted so its not really that noticeable.
BUT THAT IS REALLY NICE WORK MAN!! GOOD JOB!!

what would be cool is if somebody made a pod for the faceplate that goes on the dash and is wired to the brain which could be anywhere, say in the glovebox

A little pod with your face plate inside that goes on the top of your dash so you don't have to relocate it to down below. It COULD be removable if you were so inclined, but I think it might be easier to just have it fixed. Or you could go one more step and make a bigger (but uglier) pod and put the whole deck right on your dash. If you matched the texture and color of the dash well enough it might actually look pretty awesome. Of course both of those would mean you would almost have to without option drill into the top of your dash and I for one wouldn't be thrilled about that.
BTW, where are the pics of that piece installed in your car?
