autometer oil pressure gauge

I have had TWO autometer sport comp 100psi electrical gauges fail in my 01 civic ex. Both times it was believed to be the diaphram in the sender unit. Summit replaced the part both times it stoped working, but I had to pay the mechanic to remove/install the gauge. I am wary of putting in the same gauge a third time. Should i go with a mechanical this time? Is a different series gauge better- the price raises dramatically between the series, is that due to cosmetics or actual parts used (like a better sender unit).

Anyone else experience this or have any input?

How do you have it mounted? Usually excessive vibration is what kills it. If you've already blown 2 of those things you might want to rethink how you have it installed. Relocate the sender to the firewall using a flexible stainless line if its currently hardlined to the block.

thanks for that tip- it was straight to the block, someone else just told me the same thing verbally a few minutes ago! Do you know if different series use different sender units, or is it the same part? I figure If I have to replace it a third time i might as well not scimp on the parts!

As far as I know, all the autometer oil pressure gauges use the same "in the ballpark" accuracy electronic senders.
