Hotel California
Why do they always use Hotel california as a track in SQ contests. I remember thinking to myself "I bet they use Hotel california, because whenever someone talks about SQ contests Hotel California is always the song that was used to check their ride."
Why? Are their no other quality tracks out there!?!

Wow, that is annoying. I use the Madonna Immaculate Collection to test.
You know what else is annoying, those friggin SQ/SPL combo cds where they aren't smart enough to seperate the two catagories into front 9 back 9 or something. So, you'll have the track with nice soothing mids cranked up and it ends and in rolls the sonic boom that nearly stops you respiratory system and shatters your rear glass - nice CD.

They have SQ contests? Awesome! Where at? How do they judge SQ?
I have the original version of Hotel California and I have the live version and I think the live version sounds better. Granted, live recordings are usually worse quality than studio recordings, but I like the live version better in this case.

What wins competition? Isn't SQ subjective? Do they measure it with instruments or something? I don't get it... what sounds good to one person might sound bad to another.
Besides, isn't the recording of Hotel California over 20 years old? It's not going to be very clear by modern standards no matter what system it's played on.

sound quality is not subjective in competitions. regarding hotel california, i have never been judged in a competition with that song. they have always used the official iasca cd...

My point had nothing to do with tuning at all. I never said anything about my system not handling the transition, I said it's annoying when the switch catches you off guard and effects you - not your system. You know, like when you switch something like a radio on and you didn't realize the volume was up all the way.

^ Who is bitching about the Eagles? I said the sound quality of the original recording from 20 years ago is not so good. I didn't say the Eagles suck.
Besides, music is subjective. Even tho I rip on crappy music all the time (see the music forum), you can't ever tell someone they're wrong for not liking a band. That's what makes music awesome. Everyone can have their own opinions.

Fonto, I think to answer your question: The "live version of the Eagles" was recorded not to long ago which is remastered beautifully, sounds good and has awsome overall sound, and anyone can buy it at a local music store. The IASCA disc can only be purchased through IASCA them selves and you have to be a registered competitor. Altough someone can burn it for you. lol
I use the DVD version of the Eagles "Live" since I dont have an IASCA disc to tune my system.

Usac uses hotel california to judge by. Iasca uses their own cd. As far as I know, hotel california is on the usac disc, unless sqlranger was using a burned disc to judge our cars that day, mike.

BTW, I want to get a sign in my car that says "No Hotel California!" to put on the dash.
Kinda like in Wayne's World...when Wayne was in the guitar shop and he started playing Stairway to Heaven, and there was a sign in the guitar store that said "No Stairway to Heaven"
